Lamplighters FCE Club

Karen McLane, president, was the Lamplighters FCE hostess as 13 members and a guest met for its November meeting in the Oak Ridge Methodist Church basement. McLane called the meeting to order, led members in repeating the pledge of allegiance and the club collect. She then shared devotional thoughts "A Time" based on Eccelasties 3: 1-14, "Seven Wonders of the World," and "Hard Times Knocking."

Guest Marilee Roethemeyer explained the process and benefits of Tai Chi and then demonstrated its movements to members.

The following reports and activities took place during the business session:

Members showed their completed huck toweling projects.

A report was given that four members attended leader training held Oct. 29, at Salem Lutheran School in Farrar, Mo., where Dorothy Hahs, Linda Sebaugh, and Jo Ann Hahs were responsible for leading the huck toweling training. Nine people attended this workshop and training.

Thank-you notes were received for contributing funds to send a student to Boys State and from the Dan Sebaugh family for the food and acts of kindness during their time of bereavement.

Members voted to make 20 chair organizers for a second grade class at Oak Ridge Elementary School. Linda Freeman, chair, will organize and see that this project is completed.

Members will donate jewelry and "bling" to the "Bingo Buddies" to be used as bingo prizes at Jackson Manor.

A discussion was held about programs of interest for next year and the ideas were gathered by the club's program committee.

Upcoming dates that need to be remembered are: "Stay strong, stay healthy program," at the MU Extension Center, Jan. 10 through March 14, 2011, cost is $20, must have a doctor's permission to take; Autism Blanket Workshop, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 11, at the MU Extension Center.

The December meeting will be held Dec. 9 at the home of Bev Meyer. Members are to bring finger foods and a gift for the secret pals gift exchange.

Refreshments were served by the hostess.

St. Mary CCW

The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met on Nov. 18 in the Huels Room.

Kate Schaefer led the praying of the Hail Mary. Introductions were made.

Becky McLean distributed copies and led the memorial service for deceased members.

Attendance: Schaefer, president; Mary Ann Hennecke, vice-president, Pat Eftink, treasurer. and Imelda Nenninger, secretary.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Eftink distributed copies of the treasurer's report:

Eftink thanked Nancy King for helping with the reception following the Mass of Life on Nov. 14.

Hennecke has information about a tour that will be led by the Rev. William Hennecke.

Commission reports:

Church: Coffee and donuts were served in the courtyard on Oct. 31.

Organization: Diane Schaefer reported on the leadership workshop at the Region 7 meeting held at St. Augustine Parish in Kelso.

International: King explained the 50/50 Water for Life program that furnishes wells for good water in many third world countries.

Eftink read a thank you note and Thanksgiving card from Migrant Whole Health.

Dolores Gibbar reported three bereavement dinners were served.

King requested a few more workers for the bake sale.

A thank you note was read from Birthright. St. Vincent CCW has a quilt to raffle to help Birthright with expenses for their computer.

The Region 7 Day of Recollection will be held on March 26, 2011 at St. Lawrence Parish in New Hamburg, Mo.

Brenda Kuhn asked for help in sorting and labeling gifts from the Angel Tree Project.

The Christmas meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 with a covered dish supper. Violin music will be played by the Ansberry girls. Instead of a gift exchange, donations will be given to Birthright.

After enjoying refreshments furnished by Gail Timpe and the November circle, Irene Stevens talked about her trip to Ireland and King showed photos of her trip to Switzerland.

The meeting closed with prayer.
