The Oak Ridge Homemakers FCE met Nov. 15 at the Elks Lodge in Jackson. A Thanksgiving meal was served at 11:30 a.m. Hostess was Pat Hecht.
The meeting was called to order at 1:15 p.m. by Jean Rehak, president. Marilyn Rutherford gave the devotion, "The Sights of All Seasons," and led the group in singing "God Bless America."
Roll call was answered by 11 members who responded with things they were thankful for. Minutes were read and approved after they were corrected with the proper dates for turning in materials. The treasurer's report was given by Hecht and approved.
She reported the club made $1,300 at the garage sale held last month. It was announced that June Peetz would be having surgery on Dec. 9.
A donation was received from Buchheit to buy more caps and gloves for the Christmas giveaway at the Elks Lodge on Dec. 8.
It was announced that the club sent a total of 1,194 Christmas cards last year. We are attempting to top that number this year.
Members approved a proposal to give a contribution to the Elks Lodge in appreciation of their allowing us to use their building for our meeting. Flowers or stepping stones have been sent to several members when there was a death in the family. Money was collected for the flower fund.
A motion was made to authorize Barks and Dellinger to spend $50 on toys and clothing for the giveaway.
Plans were finalized for the Christmas dinner to be held at Jackie Brandtner's home on Dec. 15. After a game led by Rutherford and won by several members, the meeting was adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
After the meeting, members filled candy bags to be given to the children on Dec. 8.
The John Guild Chapter met Nov. 16 at Delmonico's Restaurant in Jackson. November was Good Citizen Month and the chapter sponsors four schools. Representing those schools are Brittney Marshall, Meadow Heights School; Rachael Koehler, Saxony Lutheran High School; Chapter Regent Julie Robinson; Clayton Hester, Woodland High School; Jared Koehler, Jackson High School; and Adelaide Parsons, Chapter Chairman of the Good Citizen Committee.
The four good citizens will be judged by an independent, non-DAR committee and one will be chosen to go to the state DAR Conference to compete with other Missouri schools for scholarships.
Ten prospective members were voted on and approved. The chapter is experiencing a growth, as eight more members were approved in the last few months.
We were proud to recognize members of the American Legion from Jackson and their wives introduced by Charles Hutson.
Members of the John Guild Chapter were part of the Jackson American Legion Parade on Nov 11.
Members were invited to take part in the tree of lights held at the DAR State Headquarters in Booneville, Missouri.
Hostesses were Kay Burford, Pam Friedrich and Linda Hutson.
