Club news 12/3/03

St. Mary CWC

St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met in the cathedral Nov. 20 for a memorial service for deceased members. The meeting followed in the Huels Room of the parish office building.

The group voted to purchase altar supplies and to donate money to St. Mary Grade School dinner/auction. Margie Huber, organization commission, reported that new circle lists are available. Dolores Gibbar reported that three bereavement dinners were served since the last meeting.

Final plans for the Christmas Craft and Bake Sale were discussed. The sale will be conducted from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday, and at 8 a.m. Sunday.

The next meeting will be Dec. 18, beginning with a covered dish supper at 6 p.m., in the Huels Room. In lieu of a gift exchange, books for young children will be collected.

Town & Country FCE

The November meeting of the Town & Country FCE Club was held Nov. 13 in the home of Lois Seabaugh. Linda Thompson, president, presided over the meeting.

Two poems, "November Is" and "Thanksgiving Time" were read for devotion. Mary Klaproth read the minutes of the October meeting.

Carolyn Thompson and Linda Thompson reported on the Fall Leader Training Meeting they attended in Altenburg on Nov. 7.

A council meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Extension Center in Jackson. Lamplighters Club is in charge of arrangements.

The Christmas displays have been put up in Cape County and Jackson City parks. Bingo prizes were taken to the Lutheran Home on Nov. 21, and then members had dinner together at Cracker Barrel.

The club Christmas party will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at My Daddy's Cheesecake at the Village. Mary Gosche will install officers for 2004.

A donation of $35 was made to the Salvation Army.

Alpha Mu Master

Alpha Mu Master of Beta Sigma Phi met Nov. 24 in the home of Bernie Gardner with Judie Herbst, vice president, presiding over the meeting.

Beginning in September 2004, for the month of September, the meetings will be held on the third and fourth Monday.

Secret sister gifts were distributed by Linda Metheny.

Bobbie Woodard will host the annual Christmas meeting and gift exchange at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8.

Progressive FCE

Progressive FCE met at the Cape Career and Technology Center for the November meeting. Bonnie Kinder arranged this with the Culinary Arts Program. David Dickey gave a tour of the building, explaining the different subjects and vocations that are being taught there.

Dorothy Pensel, treasurer, reported that the group cleared $261 from its card party in October. She has sent $130.50 to the Safe House for Women, and $130.50 will be sent to the SEMO Center for Abused Children. Items for the Safe House were also collected at the meeting.

Shirley Cracraft reported that there were two applicants for the FCE scholarship. The recipient will be announced later.

A reminder was announced that the FCE Council Meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 4 in the lower level of the University of Missouri Extension Center.

Jane Boren, president, installed officers for the coming year. They are: Doloris Meyr, president; Elvia Percival, vice president; Mary Lou Talley, secretary; Earlene Sokolowski, treasurer; and Shirley Cracraft, historian.

Exchange Club

The Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau met Nov. 4 and Nov. 18 at Port Cape Girardeau.

Ferd Sturm presented the youth of the month at the Nov. 4 meeting. They were Roger Mainer from Notre Dame High School for September; Jayson Spain from Saxony Lutheran High School for October; and Danielle Auer from Central High School. The students and parents reported on all the activities of the students during the quarter. The teachers were also present at the meeting to support the students.

Dan Todt presented the program for the Nov. 18 meeting.

Ham and bean day was well attended thanks to members and spouses. Also, thanks to the 4-H members for their help.

Larry Simon is recruiting members to ring the Salvation Army bells this month.

The next meeting will be the annual Christmas party on Dec. 16. Richard Behring will chair the event and spouses are invited to attend.

Rose Hills Garden Club

The Rose Hills Garden Club met Nov. 24 at the home of Hannah Maddox. Co-hostesses were Becky Zieske and Bonnie Kipper.

The program was "Birds" presented by Adelyn Stuart and Sina Kaiser. Kipper made a report on the Little Red House. Information concerning a grant for the garden and flowers to be planted at the Little Red House in the spring will be presented in January.

The club will give a Christmas party at Parkview School on Dec. 23.

New officers will be installed in January.

The next meeting will be Dec. 15 at the home of Kathy Marchi.
