New McKendree UMW

The New McKendree United Methodist Women met Nov. 13 with 29 members and three quests present. President Mary Klaproth opened the meeting by leading the group in the reciting of the UMW Purpose.

The minutes were read by Marica Eggers, secretary. Marilyn Fronabarger gave the treasurer's report. Both were approved as given.

A thank-you note from the Ministerial Alliance was received for the $100 donation to the food pantry.

Chairman reports were given:

Edith Eggers, program resources, reported that she needed the names and number of books read by the group by next meeting.

Penny Green, social action, reminded each circle for their money to give to a Christmas needy family by December.

In Shirley Patterson's absence, Klaproth reported that New McKendree attended the Fall District meeting Oct. 13 in Kennett, Mo.

Inez Statler, membership, nurture and outreach, reported that she visited the Lutheran Home and cleaned glasses and gave out Thanksgiving cards.

Jan Burk, mission ribbon coordinator, in Amy Cook's absence gave mission ribbons to the first-time visitors.

Elwanda Corbin, bereavement committee, reported on serving the Hartle, Lynn and Lewis funerals.

Mary and Martha Circle won the attendance ribbon with 12 members.

There will not be any dinners until January.

Klaproth asked the group to think about attending the Legislative Event on March 5 and 6. Registration deadline is Jan. 27. Money is budgeted to send members to this event. She also announced a Women's Extraordinary Women Conference April 26 and 27 at the Show Me Center. For more information so to website, www.ewomen.net.

A memorial service was given by Pat Lynn in memory of lost members, Lois Bollheimer, Nancy Chiles, Marilyn Lewis, Bobbie Meinz and Martha Wagner. Family members in attendance were Carol Rohlfs and Allison Keith.

Installation of new officers was conducted by Sherry Hammes and Betty Henry.

Gravel Hill Church history was given by Julie Coombs.

The UMW met Dec. 4 with 30 members and a guest, Wilma Wilcoxson, in attendance.

The minutes were read by Marica Eggers, secretary, and Fronabarger gave the treasurer's report. Both were approved as given. Christmas offering to the church was discussed. Burk moved that a $300 special offering will be given to the church. King seconded and the group approved.

Edith Eggers, program resources, reported on book reading for 2012 and stated that the 2013 books are ready to read.

Burk, spiritual growth, read a note from Lynn in her absence.

Klaproth, social action, reported in Green's absence, that $175 was collected for a single parent with three children. They will buy $25 of clothes for each child and and give the family a $50 grocery gift card.

In Patterson's absence, Klaproth announced that the Church Women United dues of $5 are due.

Statler, membership, nurture and outreach, reported that she visited the nursing homes and Saint Francis Medical Center.

Burk in Cook's absence reported that New McKendree were given 10 mission ribbons from the District. She also stated that $1 and $2 ribbons available.

Corbin, bereavement committee, reported on serving the Bonney funeral.

Klaproth handled out registration forms for the Legislative Event on March 5 and 6. Registration deadline is Feb. 4 and money is budgeted to attend this event.

The UMM fish fries will be Jan. 19 and Feb. 16. The following cake assignments were given: Esther, five; Hope, five; Mary and Martha, five; Wesleyan, two; Tabatha's Treasures, two; and members at large, two.

Mary and Martha Circle won the attendance ribbon with 13 members present.

The 2013 UMW Program Books and Pledge Cards were handed out to each circle. Klaproth thanked Henry for running off the books and Doric Dace, Pam Jones and Sue Smith for assembling them.

Mary and Martha Circle will host the Jackson Manor Birthday Party at 2 p.m. Jan. 8.

Klaproth announced that two recommendations were received for special mission recognition pins and that they will be presented at the UMW weekend church service.

The program was entitled "Healing Acts of Jesus from the Big Red Book." It was written by Patsy Johnson, read by Hammes and acted out by its members.

The next meeting will be a Mission Team meeting at 7 p.m. Jan 8 and the UMW Stone Soup luncheon/meeting is Feb. 5.

Xi Nu Phi

The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Tuesday at the home of Debbie Balsano for the Christmas Party.

Candy Brazil was welcomed as a guest and future member.

President Renee Hesselrode gave information about a discount offer from International on gift orders and pins between through Feb. 28.

Information was also given about the Envoy program for men.

Cindy Propst announced that a Special Olympics dinner will be held in mid April and the chapter will help.

The meetings in January will be Jan. 8 at the home of Propst and Jan. 22 at the home of Sandy Ross.

Members exchanged secret pal gifts.
