St. Mary CWC; Exchange Club; Hobbs Chapel UMW; Alpha Mu Master

St. Mary CWC

The St. Mary Council of Catholic Women gathered Dec. 9 in the Monsignor Huels room for their Christmas social and meeting. The December Circle provided desserts. Mary Bauer, an eighth-grade student at St. Mary Cathedral School, sang several Christmas songs.

Christmas cards were signed to be sent to those serving in the military. Nineteen birthday cards were sent for December.

Our next meeting will be held Jan. 20. We will view a film sent by Sister Mary Christopher.

Exchange Club

The Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau met Nov. 2 and 16 at Port Cape Girardeau.

At the Nov. 2 meeting, Ferd Sturm introduced the students of the month. The September student of the month was Emily Bira from Notre Dame Regional High School; October student of the month was Deanna Leible from Saxony Lutheran High School; and November student of the month was Kara Ann Bragg from Central High School. The students received a plaque and a $100 savings bond.

At the Nov. 16 meeting, Pat Williams, coordinator for the Life Line at Saint Francis Medical Center, gave a report on the Life Line in Cape Girardeau County. The service came to Cape Girardeau in 1982 with only six people participating. There are 60 people using it today.

A letter from Birthright asking for a donation was discussed and tabled. Also a donation to the Cape Girardeau County 4-H Clubs for a new building was discussed and tabled. A motion was made and a donation of $250 was made at the Nov. 16 meeting. A letter from Cottonwood Treatment Center asking for a donation was discussed. A motion was made and seconded to donate $100.

The next meeting will be Jan. 4 with Homer Schnurbusch presenting the program.

Hobbs Chapel UMW

The Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Women met at the home of the Rev. Janet Hopkins on Dec. 7.

A poem written by Erma Bombeck was read by Hopkins and a newspaper article regarding Rosemary Whittard was read by June Warder.

Each guest donated a toy for Toys for Tots, sponsored by the Marine Corps League.

A short business meeting was held. Donations will be made to FISH, Birthright, the Salvation Army and Epworth. The Epworth donation will be made in January.

Alpha Mu Master

The Alpha Mu Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held its annual Christmas party at the home of Judie Herbst. The business meeting was conducted by Linda Metheny. It was reported that a chapter contribution was sent to Toybox and Christmas for the Elderly.

Plans were finalized for the "Breakfast in a Bag" to be held at 10 a.m. on Jan 1 at the home of Vicki McKinney. A vote was taken for the chapter Valentine queen which will be crowned at the chapter Valentine dinner in February.

The next city council meeting will be held Jan. 17.

Herbst presented the program "Things our mothers taught us," "Grandpa and the House 'out-back,'" and a visit to the "Wright Family Christmas."'

The next meeting will be held Jan. 10 at the home of Marilyn Schwab.
