Club news 12/18/02

Beta Sigma Phi

Laureate Alpha Rho of Beta Sigma Phi met Dec. 5 at Reflections Restaurant in Jackson.

A gift exchange was held and the secret sisters were revealed.

Toys were brought to the meeting to take to Toybox for needy children. A letter of thanks was sent to Beta Xi for hosting the Exemplar-Preceptor dinner.

New secret sisters were assigned for the new year.

The next meeting will be Jan. 2.

Exchange Club

The Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau met Dec. 3 at Port Cape Girardeau. Monty Kyle presented the program.

The next meeting was to be Dec. 17 at Port Cape Girardeau. This will be the annual Christmas party and spouses are invited to attend. Merrill Simmons will present the program.

Kage FCE

The Kage FCE Club met at Dexter Barbecue for its Christmas luncheon on Dec. 12, with Linda Farrow and Joan Meyer serving as hostesses.

Some brief reports on the year's activities were given: 484 Christmas greetings were sent for military mail; 795 Golden Books have been distributed to children since the club began the project, an average of about 25 books per month; and the auction held in November brought in $296.

It was decided to give donations to Toybox, Christmas for the Elderly, the Salvation Army Tree of Lights and Teen Challenge.

The club will give two dolls for Child Advocacy Day in Jefferson City in January and members will bring Valentines in January to mail to men and women in the military.

Program Books for 2003 were given to each one present and everyone was asked to bring their volunteer sheets for 2002 to the Jan. 9 meeting which will be held at the home of Dortha Strack.

Christmas gifts were exchanged. Secret pals for 2002 were revealed and a drawing was held for 2003 secret pals.

Quest Club MFWC

The Quest club met Dec. 11 for a luncheon meeting at Chateau Girardeau. The program "Learning about antique Christmas ornaments," was given by Stan Grimm. He displayed and decorated an antique Christmas tree made of feathers.

A donation was made to Missouri Girls' Town in memory of Gladys Rasche Taylor. Also a contribution was made to CARE.

The next meeting will be held Jan. 8, at the home of LaFern Stiver, 2560 Meadow Lane. The program will be "Happiness is life long education" and will be presented by Beth Mueller from the Hoover Center.

Vernice Baumstark from the Wednesday Club was a guest.

Xi Nu Phi

Xi Nu Phi met Dec. 3 at Debbie Balsano's home. The program topic, "How to make bows," was presented by the hostess.

The next meeting was to be the Christmas party on Dec. 17 at Sandy Ross' home. Bring a swap gift, Christmas secret sister gift and a finger food snack.

Town & Country FCE

The Town & Country FCE Club met Dec. 12 at Soups and Sweets for their annual Christmas party and gift exchange. Shirley Heise, Norma Schrieber and Mary Klaproth were in charge of arrangements for the Christmas party. Toys for Toybox were brought to the meeting.

Officers for 2003 were installed by Mary Gosche, FCE consultant. They are: Linda Thompson, president; Darlene McCain, vice president and secretary; Shirley Heise, treasurer; Lois Seabaugh, reporter; Norma Schrieber, cards and flowers; and Mary Klaproth, songs and games.

The club decided on their projects for 2003 which will be the Lutheran Home and the Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.

The next meeting will be Jan. 9. Members are to bring two pound items to be auctioned off as a money-making event.

Scottish Rite

The Scottish Rite Men's Club met Dec. 11 for their annual Christmas dinner.

Zalma High School Concert Choir sang traditional and novelty songs.

Al Mason gave a report on The Rite Care, which is a speech and language clinic for young children provided by the group.

Officers for 2003 were installed. They were Harold Corse, president; Stanley Beggs, vice president; John Fry, third vice president; Earl Statler, chaplain; Laymond Allgood, secretary; and Richard Allgood, treasurer.

The next meeting will be Feb. 12, after a winter break. A potluck dinner will precede the meeting.

Ladies Auxiliary 3838

The American Legion Post 3838 Ladies Auxiliary met Dec. 12. Two new members were accepted, Robin Wihetson and Shirley Ruehling.

The district meeting will be Jan. 19 at Post 3838. Guests will be Voice of Democracy students, teachers and parents. Dinner will be at noon, with the program to follow.

Eligibility has been extended to those serving in designated hostile fire and eminent danger pay areas. Any questions, please call Post 3838.

The auxiliary is collecting Campbell soup labels for National Home for Children. These may be brought to the next meeting or dropped off at the post.

Donations were made to Toybox for $100, to VIP Industry pantry for $50 and $200 was made to Past National Presidents Scholarship Fund.

The Jan. 19 meeting will be a lingerie party to give items to the men and women at the Missouri Veteran's Home. The Ladies Auxiliary will also be sending Christmas cards with a donation to Missouri Veterans Home residents.

Decision was made to meet Jan. 19 at the post to deliver cookies and candies, and operation upline cards to all recruiting offices in Cape Girardeau as part of Adopt a Unit Program.

The Missouri Veterans Home will have bingo at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 28.

The next steak night will be Jan. 4. Jan. 9 will be the next ladies meeting at the Post.

Beta Sigma Phi

Judie Herbst hosted the annual Alpha Mu Master Chapter Christmas meeting. Carole Calvin presided over the short business meeting.

Joyce Hays reported that the pledge training would resume at the Jan. 13 meeting.

Herbst presented the program, "Christmas at Judie's." Each member was asked to share three of their favorite recipes, from which Herbst made selections in preparation for the evening meal. As she shared stories for this meal, she presented each member with a chapter cookbook made up of all recipes which had been given by members and a book from the Taste of Home series, "Light and Tasty."

The members then had their secret sister exchange.

The next meeting will be held Jan. 13, in the home of Marilyn Schwab.
