Xi Nu Phi; New Salem UMW; New McKendree UMW

Cape Girardeau CWU

The Cape Girardeau area Church Women United met at the Salvation Army for the World Community Day program. Michele Moon, president, presided over a short business meeting. The minutes were read and approved.

The officers for 2006 were presented by the nominating committee. They are Moon, president; Barb Yallaly, vice president; Marge Janssen, recording secretary; Martha Sanderson, treasurer; and Helen Lohmeier, corresponding secretary. The motion was made and carried to accept this slate of officers.

Helen Ueleke made contact with a person involved with PATCH to see what kind of gifts can given. These gifts will be received at the "Jesus' Birthday" meeting. The items will be included on the card for a reminder of the December meeting that will be sponsored by New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson at its new facility on Highway 25. Marilyn Fronabarger will be in charge. Deb Tracy reminded the group that this meeting will be a cookie exchange and to bring three dozen cookies and the recipe. She is collecting cookie recipes for a cookbook.

The meeting adjourned to the sanctuary for the World Community Day program, "A Light to Be Nations."

Xi Nu Phi

The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Nov. 1 at the home of Mary Stuart. Members signed up to attend the Exemplar-Preceptor Banquet, which will be held Nov. 17.

Applications for the 2006-2007 state conventions were distributed. A donation was made to the American Heart Association for the heart walk, which Renee Hesselrode will be participating in.

The next social event will be a shopping trip to St. Louis on Dec. 4.

The next meeting will be on Nov. 15 at the home of Cindy Propst.

New Salem UMW

The United Methodist Women of New Salem United Methodist Church in Daisy met Nov. 2 in the fellowship hall of the church. Members and spouses enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal preceding the meeting. Dorothy Hahs, president, presided over the meeting.

There were 31 sick/shut-in calls made during October. Betty Henry and Betty Hahs reported on the nursing home visitation for October. The visitation committee members for November are Jackie Kurre and Margie Roberts.

A thank-you card from Addie Henley was read. Colleen Lukefahr reported that the young adult class would take care of the Christmas display in Jackson City Park.

A special offering will be taken next month for the UMW adopted elderly person. It was tentatively decided that the Christmas party/meeting will be held at the new Jay's Smokehouse in Jackson.

Officers for 2006 were voted on and accepted. They are: Dorothy Hahs, president; Shirley Grebe, vice president; Betty Hahs, secretary; Roberta Seabaugh, treasurer; and Barbara Brown, reporters. Jackie Kurre will install the officers at the Dec. 6 meeting.

Margie Roberts presented the program and the World Thank Offerings were received.

New McKendree UMW

The United Methodist Women of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson met in the fellowship hall on Nov. 1. Marilyn Fronabarger, president, presided over the meeting. Bessie Buck, Southeast District president, installed the officers and they will assume their duties in January. They are: Fronabarger, president; Tandy Wendel, vice president; Sue Jones, secretary; Amy Cook, treasurer; Edith Eggers, secretary of program resources; and Michele Litzelfelner, Barbara Burnette, Mary Klaproth and Betty Henry, committee on nominations.

Missions coordinators are: Elwanda Corbin, spiritual growth; Pat Lynn, social action; Shirley Patterson, education and interpretation; Wilma Summers, mission ribbons coordinator; Dawn Detring, historian; Wilma Wilcoxson and June Engel, supportive community chairperson; and Wilma Summers and Betsy Kunz, volunteers for supportive community.

Circle chairwoman are: Eggers, Dorcas; Corbin, Esther; Barbara Hartle, Hope; Jan Burk, Mary and Martha; Violet Reynolds, Naomi; Pat Holloway, Wesleyan; and Patsy Johnson, members at large.

Corbin conducted a memorial service for Chloree "C" Williams and Maxine Smith, who passed away in the past year.

A motion was passed for the UMW to reimburse the members attending the state annual meeting in Columbia, Mo. for their registration and motel expenses.

Plans were finalized for the chili dinner to be held Sunday. The Hope Circle will adopt Linda Malone for their friendship member and Mary and Martha Circle will adopt Lillian Hahn for their friendship member.

Members were reminded of the CWU meeting, "Jesus Birthday" party, to be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 2 at the south campus.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. with the Mary and Martha Circle presenting the program and all circles providing refreshments. Members should also bring toys for the toybox and mittens for the mitten tree.

Refreshments were served by the members at large.
