Hostess for the Oak Ridge FCE meeting Oct. 17 was Billie Criddle who had her house and yard decorated with the Halloween theme.
Jean Rehak, vice president, conducted the meeting in absence of Nelda Crader, president. There were 11 members present.
Barbara Barks, secretary, read the minutes from September and Pat Hecht, treasurer, gave her report. Both were approved as read.
The devotion was given by Barbara Barks from books by Helen Steiner Rice, "Things to be Thankful For" and a "Favorite Recipe."
Betty Dellinger reported on the Christmas giveaway which will be held Dec. 12 along with Christmas with the Jackson Elks at the Elks Lodge.
A motion was made and seconded to keep the money for Christmas giveaway 2013, $201, which was made from the garage sale Oct. 3 and 4.
New business was on the Jackson City Park Christmas light display which must be up by Dec. 1 and taken down by Jan. 6. Marilyn Retherford and Rehak are in charge of putting up the lights.
Retherford passed out pins from Friends of Our Military Service who sent in Christmas cards from last year. She reminded all that Christmas cards for the military should be brought to the November meeting.
Food items brought to the meeting will go to the family in need who we helped in the past. Pat Hecht read a thank-you card from the family.
Peggy Barks, Barbara Barks and Dellinger reported on the state meeting held in Jefferson City in September. Melva Floyd and Retherford reported on the Fall District meeting held in Doniphan, Mo., Oct. 10.
Pennies for Friendship and the Flower Fund were collected.
"Don't Just Throw it Away" was the program given by Retherford, stating a lot of items can be recycled into another item.
Get-well cards were sent to Carole Jo Byrd who was in the hospital and Ruby Hitt still recovering from her illness.
Barbara Barks, Peggy Barks, Rehak, Frances "BeBe" Jenkins and Dellinger worked at the Jackson Extension Center on autism blankets. Jenkins made 78 blankets this past summer while off from her job at Southeast Missouri State University. The next scheduled work day on blankets will be Feb. 11.
The FCE Spring Meeting will be April 29 in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
