The November meeting of the Lamplighters FCE was held in the home of Dorothy Hahs. Karen McLane, president, called the meeting to order and had the 12 members repeat the Pledge of Allegiance and the Club Collect. Devotional thoughts titled "I Hope You Dance" and "Retarded Grandparents" were shared by the hostess. The meeting's roll call was a brown-bag exchange of homemade items.
The following club business was conducted: A report was given by those attending the leader training in Farrar, Mo., on Oct. 28. The County Park Christmas display committee reported the display items were ready to be put in place. Members volunteered to read to the elementary classes at Oak Ridge School. The books will be given to the classes for classroom use. Members were informed of the plans for the Dec. 1 FCE Council meeting. Town and Country will be the hostesses, Oak Ridge will have the devotional, Branding Iron will provide the meal, there will be a silent auction of items and the programs will be an emphasis on health and a FCE History Story.
Names of people interested in going to the Taste of Home Cooking School at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau were recorded and plans were put in place to attend. Members gave coupons to Bert Seyer for recycling by Perry County youths. A reminder about the next autism workshop to be held Feb. 1 was given.
Jo Ann Hahs presented a program about food safety following power outages. The hostess gave facts about the usage of and problems associated with the use of plastic bags. Members then shared stories and experiences that provided food for thought.
The Dec. 13 meeting and gift exchange will begin with a noon luncheon at the home of Hahs. Soup and drinks will be provided by the hostesses and members will provide salads and desserts. Roll call will be "the perfect gift." Gayla Volz will install the officers for the new club year.
The Oak Ridge FCE Club met Nov. 15 at the home of Barbara Popp for the club's annual Thanksgiving luncheon. There were 15 members and a guest in attendance. After lunch was served, Jean Rehak, president, called the meeting to order.
Barbara Barks gave the secretary's report from October's meeting, and Billie Criddle gave the treasurer's report on the club finances. Both were approved.
The devotion was giving by Popp with all members stating "what I am thankful for" as roll was taken.
Rehak read a letter from Garrett Smith Matthews from Oak Ridge for the $175 donation to support his trip to Missouri Boys State.
Plans were made for members to attend the Dec. 1 quarterly council meeting to be held at the Jackson Extension Center. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. with the meeting starting at 10 a.m. It was announced the Town and Country FCE Club was hostess for this year.
Betty Dellinger announced to set aside Nov. 30 at 10 a.m. as a work day for all members to finish up the Christmas Oak Ridge items for the underprivileged families and children in the community to be held along with Jackson Elks Lodge on Dec. 10.
Nonperishable food items were brought to the meeting for the annual food drive and those items were taken to the Fruitland Community Church for the Thanksgiving baskets for the needy.
Coins for Friendship were collected and given to Lee Anderson.
Food safety was the program given by Popp, and one thing was stressed -- "when in doubt, throw it out," especially if the power is out for more a few hours.
All Christmas cards for military servicemen and women were turned into Marilyn Retherford and will be mailed before the deadline.
Bingo at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau will be Monday with members Peggy Barks, Barbara Barks, Dellinger, and Rehak attending.
