Friendship Club

The Friendship Club met Nov. 12, at the home of Evelyn Moore.

Margaret Pfeiffer had the devotion "Each day is Thanksgiving."

A memorial was given for Sophie Wessell, longtime member of the club and also a gift was given to the Salvation Army for the Tree of Lights.

The next meeting will be at 11 a.m., Dec. 10, at Ryan's Steakhouse. Each member is to bring an exchange gift.

Xi Nu Phi

Xi Nu Phi met Nov. 19, at the home of Cathy Pancoast.

The program "The Thanksgiving Story" was presented by Pancoast. After the program, a quiz was given, "Test Your Knowledge of Thanksgiving."

Members brought Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes to the meeting.

The club plans to make a donation to the Chromosone 18 Registry & Research Society.

The next meeting will be Dec. 3, at the home of Debbie Balsano.

Auxiliary VFW 3838

Deborah Griffin presided over the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 3838 meeting, Nov. 14. Ethel Warren, district president, made an official visit. Miriam Warren, past district president, also attended.

A $100 donation was made to John J. Pershing Veterans Home in Popular Bluff, Mo., for Christmas gifts. Donations were also made for Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau for decorations of C wing, Lambert Airport USO of St. Louis for $100, and a donation of two new chairs for the outside pavillion for the Missouri Veterans Home.

Brenda Turner presented Vernice Baumstark a Department Hospital Pin for volunteer hours.

There will be no steak night in December. The next one will be Jan. 4.

Christmas cards will be made for the Missouri Veterans Home at the Dec. 12 meeting. It will also be the Christmas dinner at 6 p.m. at the post.

Scottish Rite

The Scottish Rite Men's Club met Nov. 13. A potluck dinner was held prior to the business session.

Cletus Cato, president, presided over the meeting.

Herbert Wickham was the guest speaker. The topic was "Civil War and role it played in this area."

New officers were voted on and accepted for the following year. They are Harold Corse of Perryville, president; Stanley Beggs of Jackson, first vice president; John Frey of Scott City, second vice president; Laymond Algood, secretary; Richard Algood, treasurer; and the Rev. Earl Statler, chaplain.

The Christmas dinner will be held Dec. 11, at the Masonic Hall.
