American Legion Auxiliary

Twenty two members and guests were in attendance for the Nov. 10 meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63. Hostesses were Patsy Kimbrel, Dorothy Klein and Barbara Yallaly.

Yallaly, president, called the meeting to order and the opening prayer was offered by Catherine Allison.

Linda Kern, membership chairman, reported the auxiliary has 122 members at the present time. Vergie Templeton, sunshine chairman, sent cards to Doris Langston, Juanita Cook and Bill Blaylock.

Peggy Blaylock, Americanism chairman, reported having a successful and fun filled Halloween party for our Girl Scouts. The Christmas Party for the girls will be held Dec. 18 at the home of Yallaly.

Kern, education chairman, reported the clothing and school supplies donated to Jefferson Elementary School by the auxiliary were appreciated.

The auxiliary will sponsor a Christmas Party for the Boys and Girls Club, Dec. 17 at the Post home.

The next meeting will be at noon Dec. 18. Pizza will be served and members are to bring sweet treats for dessert and a $5 gift.

Members are to bring a covered dish to the Post Christmas dinner on Dec. 15.

Nancy Hunter NSDAR

The Nancy Hunter Chapter NSDAR met Nov. 13 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. Guest speaker was Hannah Jokerst, a Southeast Missouri State University Historic Preservation Department graduate student.

Morgan Lake, MSSDAR recording secretary, gave a report on the improvements at Tamassee DAR School. She told us The Cupcake is now their symbol.

LaFern Stiver gave the treasury report and Catherine Allison read the minutes. Both were approved.

Charlotte Slinkard and Edna Ruth Fischer will be co-chairpersons of the Good Citizens awards this coming year.

Dorothy Points made a motion that the auxiliary sponsor Jokerst as candidate for Historian scholarship. It was voted on and accepted.

The group voted to purchase a memorial wreath for the deceased veteran's graves at the national cemetery at Bloomfield Historical Cemetery.

Points traveled to Charleston, S.C., to present her daughter, S/Sgt. Elizabeth Ann Kruger Billham with certificate of Patriot of the Month for September which was on the MSSDAR web site. Points received the certificate while she was in the nursing home and surprised her daughter when she was the presenter of this honor. Billham retired from the Air Force after 37 years of service on Oct 29. Several local dignitaries' of the State DAR were present.

The group voted to accept Thomas Reed, a proven descendent of the Comanche Tribe, as their Indian representative.

The next meeting will be held 11 a.m. to 12:0 p.m. on Dec. 3 at the Missouri Veterans Home with a luncheon for the female veterans.

Cape Girardeau Area CWU

Area Church Women United met Nov. 5 at Abbey Road Christian Church. Shirley Patterson, co-leader, presented the 2010 Human Rights Award to Dan Niswonger for his outstanding contributions to the community. Helen Ueleke had nominated Niswonger for the award and also cited his devotion to family, faith, and friends.

"Building the Beloved Community" was the theme for the World Community Day celebration. Marge Janssen was the leader, Patterson was song leader, and Ueleke was the pianist. The program celebrated Church Women United members' commitment to promote dignity, safety, and economic opportunities for all.

There was a reminder that Jesus's Birthday Party will be held 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 3 at the Cape Area Family Resource Center. Members are to bring three dozen cookies to share and packaged snacks for the center. The meeting closed with prayer.

Town & Country FCE

The Town & Country FCE Club met on Nov. 11 at the home of Shirley Heise. Pizza and dessert were served before the business meeting.

After dinner, Carolyn Thompson called the meeting to order. Heise had the devotion, "God Save America."Roll call was answered by eight members with what they believe Hospice is.

Darlene McCain read thank-you notes from Parkview State School and Cottonwood Treatment Center for the parties provided by Town & Country FCE.

The October activity calendar earned $87.37 for the club's treasury.

The Christmas display will be put up in Cape County and Jackson city parks.

The club gave $25 each to the Salvation Army's Thanksgiving dinner and Tree of Lights campaign and the Elks Christmas Project.

Bingo prizes were brought to the meeting and then taken to the Lutheran Home. Christmas treats will be taken to Cottonwood Treatment Center on Dec. 15 and some members will be attending their Christmas Party on Dec. 17.

The club Christmas party will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 at the home of Sue Jones with Jones and Heise handling the arrangements. Everyone is to bring a toy for Toy Box and their Secret Pal gifts.

Programs were given by Lois Seabaugh on hospice and Heise on patient beware.

The FCE County Council meeting will be held Dec. 2 at the MU Extension Center. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m.
