Xi Nu Phi
Xi Nu Phi Sorority met Nov. 5 at the home of Sheryl Smith. The program topic was history of voting given by the hostess.
Girls' day out was held Nov. 9 at St. Mary's Antique Mall. Also, Exemplar night was held Nov. 14 at Grace United Methodist Church.
The club is participating in Operation Christmas Child.
New Salem UMW
The New Salem United Methodist Women at Daisy met at the church for their regular meeting. They had a carry-in meal of turkey and all the trimmings.
The meeting was called to order by vice president Betty Hahs.
During the business meeting it was decided the UMW will buy two poinsettias for the altar for the month of December and a Christmas display will be put up in the Jackson park.
Plans were made that the families will go to Cedar Street for the evening meal and Christmas party for the next meeting.
New officers for the coming year will be Jackie Kurre, president; Betty Hahs, vice president; Verla Mangels, secretary; Shirley Grebe, treasurer; and Goldie Hobeck, reporter. These officers will be installed at the next meeting.
The fourth quarter pledge will be sent to a community center which is an after-school program in Columbia, S.C.
The program entitled "Healing the Whole Person" was given by Betty Hency. Everyone also brought in their World Thank offering.
Alpha Rho
Alpha Rho of Beta Sigma Phi met Nov. 7 at the Wine Cellar.
The program was "Christmas Happenings," presented by Norma Schreiber.
One member received a letter from a staff sergeant in Afghanistan thanking her for the group Christmas letter.
Instead of Christmas favors for members, toys will be purchased for Toybox as was done last year.
A Christmas luncheon and secret pal gift exchange will be held Dec. 5 at Reflections in Jackson.
Quest Club
The Quest Club - MFWC met Nov. 13 at the home of Dorothy Randol. Denise Stewart, executive director of the Girl Scouts Otahki Council, gave the program on "Looking to the Future with Vision 2020."
Dorothy Miles gave the Clubwoman Report concerning 100 clubwomen in Kansas City working together to help children. They were called "Angels in yellow T-shirts."
President Grace Hoover attended the 9th District meeting at Poplar Bluff, Mo. The fall 2003 district meeting will be held in Cape Girardeau on Oct. 17, 2003.
A Christmas luncheon will be held Dec. 11 at Chateau Girardeau. Carol Blue and Irene Popp will be co-hostesses.
An invitation was received to attend a meeting Dec. 8, concerning the establishment of a historical alliance for the preservation of the history of Cape Girardeau County. The meeting will be held at the university.
Missouri Girls Town Day will be celebrated on June 7, 2003.
Legion Auxiliary
The American Legion Auxiliary met Nov. 13 with hostesses Patsy Kimbrel, Fern Schlimme and Barbara Yallaly.
Several members attended the Veteran's Salute at Cape Girardeau Central High School on Nov. 11. Also, the legion and auxiliary presented their salute to veterans at Freedom Corner at Capaha Park.
Marilyn Ritter will take a bushel of apples to Cape Central High School during National Education Week. School supplies will be collected from all members and Ritter will deliver them to Jefferson Elementary School.
Myrna Powers asked for canned food to be given to the Red Star Baptist Church food drive.
Gifts should be brought for Jefferson School Christmas Gift Shop.
Members will collect tab tops for the Pull for the Ronald McDonald House.
The Post's annual Thanksgiving dinner will be held at the Missouri Armory at 6:30 p.m. today. Following the meal an auction will be held.
President Iola Amelunke announced the regular December meeting will be a noon luncheon Dec. 11 at Delmonicos in Jackson. The Post Christmas dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 at Grace United Methodist Church.
Regina Yeager won the 50/50 raffle.
Chaplain Caryn Michel dismissed the meeting with the Peace Prayer.
Exchange Club
The Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau met Nov. 5 at Port Cape Girardeau.
September youths of the month were Cory Beussink of Notre Dame Regional High School, Chris Bradshaw of Scott County Central High School, and Merridith Toole of Cape Central High School. Ferd Sturm introduced them, their parents and teachers. The students received a plaque and a $100 savings bond.
The ham and beans day went very well on Nov. 7.
Larry Simon requested members keep in mind the Bell Ringers Program in December.
The next meeting will be tonight at Port Cape Girardeau.
Kage FCE
Jane Clark was hostess at the Kage FCE Club on Nov. 14. Members turned in money for quilt tickets sold. The quilt, made by Agnes Wachter, will be given away on Dec. 5. Plans have been completed for the Dec. 5 council meeting.
A craft session on making holiday wreaths will be held at the University of Missouri's Outreach and Extension Center at 11:45 a.m. on Nov. 20. Shirley Palen will demonstrate making wreaths.
The club's Christmas luncheon will be held Dec. 12 at Dexter Barbecue.
The remainder of the meeting was devoted to an auction, which will serve as the main source of money with which to carry out the various community service projects for the coming year.
