Xi Nu Phi

The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Nov. 4, at Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar in Cape Girardeau. Information was given to members regarding the 2004 state convention to be held Oct. 22 through 24 in St. Louis. Plans were finalized for the Exemplar-Preceptor Banquet to be held Nov. 19, at Dexter Bar-B-Que in Cape Girardeau.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, in the home of Cindy Propst. Members are to bring their filled shoe boxes for the service project, "Operation Christmas Child."Young Americans 4-H Club

The Young Americans 4-H Club met Oct. 16 at Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. There were 14 members and five guests present.

Tori Schweer, vice president, called the meeting to order. The minutes were read by Julia Weber, secretary/reporter. Michael Weber gave the treasurer's report.

Christmas cards for the military were turned in. Members enrolled for next year's projects and dues were paid.

The next meeting will be the annual family dinner, which will be held Nov. 20. The Illers and Yuede families will coordinate the dinner.

Premiums from the SEMO District Fair were distributed to members. Members enjoyed a Halloween party along with a parade of costumes.Laureate Alpha Rho

The Laureate Alpha Rho chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Nov. 6, at the home of Margaret Crites. The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved and a report was given by the treasurer.

The chapter Christmas party will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Dec. 4, at Cape Girardeau Country Club. Reservations must be in by Nov. 28. Members were reminded to bring their secret sister gifts.

Dorothy Miles read the ruling for Members at Large from the Beta Sigma Phi manual.

A program was presented by the hostess on her recent trip to the Grand Canyon.

The next regular meeting will be held Jan 8 by Norma Schrieber.New McKendree UMW

Bessie Buck, president of the Southeast District of the Missouri Conference of United Methodist Women, was the installing officer of the newly elected officers of New McKendree United Methodist Women at their Nov. 4, meeting. Officers include, Barbara Burnette, president; Marilyn Fronabarger, vice president; Maxine Smith, secretary; Amy Cook, treasurer; Edith Eggers, secretary of program resources; Doris Davault, chairman of nominating committee; Elwanda Corbin, coordinator of spiritual growth; Patty Lynn, coordinator of social action; Shirley Patterson, coordinator for education and interpretation; Barbara Hartle, coordinator for membership, nurture and growth; Gail King and Wilma Wilcoxsen, co-chairs of supportive community; Kay Millham, mission ribbons; and Dawn Detring, historian.

Burnette conducted the business meeting, receiving reports from various committees. Cook reported on the October annual United Methodist Women's meeting held in Columbia, Mo., where New McKendree UMW was recognized as a "five-star unit" and received a platinum rating in the Mission Today Program.

The Mary and Martha Circle held the fellowship hour.

Holding the Dec. 2 meeting will be the Deborah Circle and the program will be presented by the Mary and Martha Circle. The mission collection will be Toys for Tots and The Mitten Tree.

åThe New Salem United Methodist Women of Daisy met in the Fellowship Hall for a Thanksgiving turkey dinner with spouses as guests.

During the business meeting, it was reported that money had been collected and will be given to three former church members as a wedding gift.

A new prayer chain was passed out to each member present.

The nominating committee has met and elected the officers for the coming year.

A committee will plan the Christmas party. Each one will bring a gift for their secret pal. Poinsettias will be purchased for the altar for December.

A thank-you note was read from the Josh Oehl family. A card was signed by all members and will be sent to a member who is in the hospital. Two visitors were welcomed as new members.

The program, "Come late in November," was given by Barbara Brown. Also a poem was read by Betty Henry, "Every Day is Thanksgiving."
