Billie Criddle was hostess at her home on Oct. 16 for the monthly Oak Ridge FCE meeting.
President Jean Rehak opened the meeting.
Roll call by 15 members present was one quality of a good friend.
The treasurer's report was given by Criddle and secretary Nelda Crader read the minutes from September and both were approved.
Rehak reported she received $50 from the SEMO District Fair held in September from the club's fair booth and also reported on the Cape County fall district meeting held Oct. 11 at the Cape County Extension Center in Jackson.
Betty Dellinger gave a report on the estate sale food stand receipts and handed out sheets to all on the items still needed for the annual Christmas in December in conjunction with the Jackson Elks Lodge for items for the needy.
Melva Floyd gave the program from the Hearth Fire Series #50 on Woman to Woman "How do we talk about Autism."
Rehak reported she would be sending in state and national dues to the FCE state treasurer.
Several members reported on going to the leadership training meeting in November at Farrar, Mo.
Lee Anderson, Barbara Barks and Rehak helped with bingo on Oct. 22 at Cape Girardeau Missouri Veterans Home. Oak Ridge FCE gave another two afghans to the veterans for their use.
Criddle served appetizers and desserts after the meeting adjourned.
St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met Oct. 18 in the Huels Room. The meeting began with a prayer before the election.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Attendance: Becky McLean, president; Pat Eftink, treasurer; Imelda Nenninger, secretary; and Kate Schaefer, past-president. Mary Buxton, vice-president was absent.
Pat Eftink distributed copies of the treasurer's report.
Commission Reports Leadership:
Diane Schaefer: raffle tickets are ready to be inserted in the Sunday bulletin on CCW Sunday. The prizes will be displayed that day at coffee and donuts.
Spirituality: A report was read from Brenda Kuhn announcing the programs available this fall. Sister Lucille Zerr can use volunteers at the food pantry. Food donations can be brought to any of our meetings.
Dolores Gibbar reported that two bereavement dinners had been served.
There will not be a meeting in November because the Region VII meeting will be held here on Nov. 13. Members should try to attend this meeting to show support. A list of food items needed was passed.
The craft and bake sale will be held on Dec. 1 and 2 in the school cafeteria. Kate Schaefer will be in charge of publicity and make posters. Sign-up sheet for workers was available.
It was moved by Charlene Urhahn and seconded by Irene Stevens that the CCW donate $100 to help pay for Carley Criddle to attend the Seek 2013 conference in Orlando, Fla., in January.
Vicki Raines will talk to the grade school about a request received from Sister Rita Schonhoff for assistance in her outreach ministry.
Sister Diane Buckmann, S.S.N.D., took pictures that may be used next year in the DDF video.
Pat Eftink, Judy Stricker and Mary Buxton prepared and served the dinner for the quilters. They will teach anyone interested in learning to quilt and would welcome any helpers.
The Red Cross blood drive will be held on Nov. 18. Donors and workers are needed.
The Christmas covered dish dinner will be held on Dec. 13 in the Huels Room.
Janet Meyers won the 50/50 drawing. Imelda Nenninger and Edna Smith won attendance prizes.
Linda Jenkins-Rechtin hosted the wine tasting and Raines, October circle, furnished other refreshments.
The Cape Girardeau County Democratic Central Committee met Oct. 23 in the Harris Room at the Cape Girardeau Public Library.
Chairman Mike Masterson called the meeting to order.
The treasury report was given and the secretary read the minutes from the previous meeting.
A guest for the evening was Mary Cotner, who was vying for the position of the public administrators office in Cape Girardeau County. She graduated from Bell City High School, attended Southeast Missouri State University and graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill., with an associate degree in applied science in physical therapy. She has been employed with Southeast Hospital for 25 years specializing in orthopedics, neurological therapy and lymphedema.
The Central Committee Christmas Party is being planned and the chairman is making reservations for next year's fall festival.

The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Oct. 16 at the home of Susan Benton.
The chapter will have a rush on Dec. 4 at the home of Debbie Balsano. Members are to send names and addresses to Tammy Monia who will send the invitations.
A shopping trip to Paducah, Ky., is scheduled for Dec. 8.
Cindy Propst thanked the members of the chapter who helped at the honored guest recepton for the Special Olympics State Games which was held on Oct. 12.
Renee Hesselrode hosted a bonfire at her home on Oct. 7.
Sunshine gifts were distributed.
The program on knee replacement was presented.
The next meeting will be Nov. 20 at the home of Cathy Pancoast.
The November meeting was held in conjunction with the Exemplar-Preceptor city-wide social Nov. 5 at Delmonico's Restaurant in Jackson.
Monia and Smith were advanced to Laureate degree. A discussion held on the upcoming rush.
