Oak Ridge FCE

Billie Criddle was hostess at her home in Oak Ridge to eleven members of the Oak Ridge Homemakers FCE Club on Oct. 19. Ruby Hitt gave a devotion on "the magic moment."

Business included learning that County Council Meeting would be "same time and same place as always." It was announced that Jean Rehak will be the elected Cape Girardeau County treasurer for the next three years.

Marilyn Retherford and Rehak reported on the fall Southeast Missouri District Meeting in Patterson, Mo., and Betty Dellinger, Barbara Barks, and Retherford relayed special information of the Missouri State Meeting they attended in St. Louis. The ladies referred to the state event by placing the top three programs as those on Autism by Aaron Likens, member of Touch Point, Sexting Dangers, by Sarah Gowin, and Making Home Safe for Mature and Immature children given by Teresa Marechal from Children's Hospital.

Criddle reported that she had turned in membership information and dues to the county treasurer, Roberta Seabaugh.

Rehak had received and presented District Fair winnings to Dellinger, as the club had voted, to help pay for clothing for the Elks Christmas Giveaway to be held Dec. 9.

A letter from Boys State was received and read by Rehak, explaining that Stephen W. Bolen II had been the student chosen to represent Oak Ridge School with Oak Ridge Homemakers FCE and Lamplighters FCE funding his trip to MBS.

An announcement was made and plans are in the making for the Oak Ridge Club to host the Christmas Council meeting on Dec. 2. The Oak Ridge Club will hold their Thanksgiving meal at the next meeting to be held in Dellinger's Home.

Retherford made plans to have the club conduct Christmas Cards for Friends of Our Troops, and members were urged to bring cards to the Thanksgiving Meal.

Bark gave the program, "Year round gardening."

Lamplighters FCE News

Verla Mangels' home was the setting for the October Lamplighters FCE meeting and PJ party. Karen McLane, president, called the meeting to order. The hostess shared devotional thoughts entitled "God's Maze" and "The Right to Say No."

McLane reported that she had received $50 for the Lamplighters SEMO District Fair booth display, that she and Jo Ann Hahs had taken a total of eight dolls for next year's Child Advocacy Day, and that the club has provided fried chicken for the bereavement meal for Dan Sebaugh's family.

Jackie Kurre reported that the Lamplighters' 6 X 2 1/2 foot banner has been finished and is now in club possession.

Bert Seyer and her daughter, Theresa, took down the fair booth on Sept. 19. Then Linda Sebaugh and Seyer distributed booth belongings to the appropriate members.

Hahs reported on the State FCE meeting and showed the two blue ribbons her display board won at the meeting.

Teresa Hinkebein, Jackie Kurre, McLane and Hahs attended the District FCE meeting in Patterson, Mo., on Oct. 5. Three members participated in the Autism Blanket Work Day at the Cape County Extension Center on Oct. 11.

McLane reminded members of the "Stay strong, stay healthy program" that will be held at the Extension Center Jan. 10 through March 14, 2011. The cost is $20 and each person must have a doctor's permission to take. Also the 75th National FCE Conference will be in Denver, Colo., in 2011.

The club voted to give $10 to the Nickels for Conference Scholarship Fund.

Linda Freeman presented a program about "Year round gardening" with an emphasis on growing and using herbs in cooking. To keep with the theme of their dress (PJ) and slumber party memories, members shared stories from their childhood. Kurre read her rendition/take on Lamplighters FCE "Slumber Party for Golden Girls."

The Nov. 18 meeting will be held at the Oak Ridge Methodist Church, with McLane as hostess. Gayla Volz will be responsible for the program on Tai Chi. Roll Call will be an exchange of homemade items. Also members are to bring their huck toweling projects for show and tell.
