Lamplighters FCE Club

The Lamplighter FCE Club met Sept. 15 at the home of Teresa Hinkebein. President Jo Ann Hahs called the meeting to order. Karen McLane read last month's minutes and Linda Sebaugh gave the treasurer's report.

Unfinished business: Judy Strickland reported on a meeting she attended for next year's programs. Donations for Love Inc. were delivered. Desserts were delivered to Oak Ridge School on Aug. 25 and were well received. Relay for Life donations were $116. Pennies for Friendship donations were $20.85.

New business: Membership forms for 2017 and dues of $30.50 were turned in to Sebaugh. The fall district meeting will be held Oct. 18 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. The international meal will be held in October and the country featured is Afghanistan. Officers for 2017 were elected. New officers are Judy Strickland, president; Karen Mclane, vice president; Linda Sebaugh, treasurer; Jo Ann Hahs, secretary; Roberta Allen, song leader; Bev Meyer, game leader; and Margaret Friese, reporter. Minutes were placed on file.

Programs were given by Hahs on reverse mortgages and "Small Steps to Health and Wealth" was given by Verla Mangels.

Announcements: Autism sew day will be Oct. 26 in the lower level of the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson.

Jackie Kurre will host the Oct. 20 meeting at 6 p.m. Roll call will be the best-tasting dish.

The meeting was adjourned and luncheon was served by the hostess.

Oak Ridge FCE Club

The Oak Ridge FCE Homemakers Club met Sept. 8 at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson The meeting was called to order by Barbara Barks in the temporary absence of Jean Rehak, president. Sixteen members attended. The secretary's minutes and the treasurer's report were read and approved.

A short business meeting was held before members began setting up the tables for the 100th birthday celebration of the Oak Ridge FCE Homemakers Club.

The meeting date for the October meeting was changed to Oct. 11, due to the garage sale date being set for Oct. 20 and 21. Members were reminded of the District FCE meeting on Oct. 18 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Several members of the club plan to attend. The president reported that four members of the club also will attend the State FCE Conference in Osage Beach, Missouri, Sept. 28 through 30. Members were asked to bring a $15 gift for a door prize, as well as bandannas for a state project involving human trafficking. A thank-you note was read from the family that received the money we gave in September.

After discussion of final plans for the celebration at 1 p.m., the meeting was adjourned.

The Oak Ridge Homemakers of FCE celebrated its 100th birthday on Sept. 8 with a reception. County President Barbara Barks introduced special guests. More than 30 FCE members, as well as dignitaries from the state, regional and national organizations were in attendance. The club was honored to receive congratulations from State FCE President Edna Crain, National FCE President Lynn Maples, and Betty Schalk, national vice president of programs. They spoke on the accomplishments of the club and encouraged the group to keep growing. Others who spoke also praised the group for the many projects in which they were highly involved.

Cake and punch were served after the program. Members and guests enjoyed seeing tools, utensils and other memorabilia people had used over the past 100 years. They also looked over the many scrapbooks and records that have been well kept over the years.
