Town and Country FCE Club

Town and Country FCE Club met Oct. 9 at Jackson Extension Center.

Minutes from the September meeting were read by Darlene McCain and approved as read. A thank-you note was read from Cottonwood Treatment Center thanking the club for the donation of a back-to-school ice cream party. Also, a note was read from Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry thanking the club for the donation of food items.

During the business session members were thanked by the president for attending the trip to the Gateway Arch and Botanical Gardens in St. Louis Oct. 6. Lunch was at Zia's On The Hill, in the Italian section of the city. Members were also thanked for bringing candy for Halloween treat bags for Cottonwood Treatment Center and Christmas cards for the military to be mailed by Sue Jones, chairperson.

Mary Klaproth reported on the MAFCE meeting she attended Oct. 1 through 3 at Osage Beach, Missouri. She reported that Edna Crain will assume the duties of president of MAFCE Jan. 1.

JoAnn Hahs, a member of Lamplighters FCE Club, will remain the district director for the Southeast region in 2015. She announced that the NAFCE national conference will be held at Blue Springs, Missouri, July 23 through 25, 2015.

Members were given forms to sign up for the leader training meeting to be held Nov. 14 at United in Christ Lutheran School in Farrar, Missouri. Members attending will be Karen Murphy, Lois Seabaugh, Klaproth, Jones and McCain. Training will be given on the subjects of Growing Culinary Herbs; The New Missouri Mix; Immunizations and Screenings; and Craft Project: Scherenschnitte Paper Cutting.

In observance of NAFCE week Oct. 12 through 18, members have planted two shrubs at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson, attended church together Oct. 12 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, and had lunch together at Delmonico's Restaurant in Jackson after the worship service.

Joyce King, Donna Woolsey, Klaproth and Seabaugh plan to attend the FCE Fall District meeting Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Sedgewickville, Missouri.

Members decided to hold a Halloween party for the children at Parkview State School. The date for the party will be announced later. Members are to bring various treat items for the party. Seabaugh is in charge of bringing ice cream cups donated by Prairie Farms Dairy in Cape Girardeau. Members also decided to contribute money to the annual Thanksgiving dinner hosted by the Salvation Army.

Guest speaker was Donna Lichtenegger, Missouri State Representative. She gave a program on the trip she and her husband, John, had made to Argentina in 2005. The club had focused on the country of Argentina this year and the international dinner held in August. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Lichtenegger was unavailable at that time. A second program on "Gluten Free Foods" was presented by Karen Murphy.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the home of Jones. Programs will be given by Linda Thompson and King.

Club out will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hickory House in Jackson.
