Wonderworkers FCE

The Wonderworkers FCE Club met at Riverside Regional Library in Altenburg, Mo., on Oct. 13. Nelda Starzinger, vice president, opened the meeting and Joy engelhart gave a report on the president's meeting.

Troops for Fan Mail to the military was discussed. Members were reminded of the FCE Extension trips to see the covered bridges in Indiana on Friday and Saturday; a trip to Branson, Mo., Nov. 11 through 13; and the Singing Christmas in Memphis, Tenn., on Dec. 10.

The program on scherrenchitte (paper cutting) was given by Kathy Schlimpert from the library. Each member made a Christmas ornament.

The next meeting will be at the home of Engelhart at 7 p.m. Nov. 17.

Town & Country FCE

The Town & Country FCE Club met Oct. 13 at Pioneer Orchard in Jackson for a hayride, bonfire and wiener and smores roast. Hostess was Lois Seabaugh. Shirley Heise, president, presided over the meeting.

The club received $50 from the SEMO Fair Board for receiving the Grand Champion Rosette for their booth display at the fair. A monetary gift of appreciation was sent to Erin Gregory for composing signs for the booth.

The fall district meeting will be held on Oct. 27 at Perkins Restaurant at the Bluff Inn in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Members planning to attend include Carolyn Thompson, Judy Johnson, Mary Klaproth, Heise and Seabaugh.

FCE leader training will be held at the school in Farrar, Mo., on Oct. 27. Members planning to attend include Darlene McCain, Heise and Johnson.

In celebration of National MAFCE Week, members planted a pin oak tree at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson, attended the president's church, Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills on Oct. 9, and displayed their fair booth in the window of Ross Furniture in Jackson the week of Oct. 10 through 16.

The club will be in charged of meal arrangements, take home favors and table decorations for the Cape County Extension Council's Christmas meeting on Dec. 1. Sue Jones is to contact a caterer to supply the meal.

Inez Knott and Jones announced that the club Christmas party will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at Hunan Chinese Restaurant in Jackson.

Members filled Halloween treat bags for Cottonwood Treatment Center residents to be delivered on Oct. 27. Also, 10 Christmas cards were brought by each member to be mailed by Jones to Support Our Troops military mail program.

Klaproth gave the program on "No Child Left Behind."

Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at Cup 'N' Cork in Cape Girardeau.

The next meeting will be at the home of Margie McAnally at 7 p.m. Nov. 10.

Progressive Club

The Progressive Club met Sept. 17 at the new Missouri Department of Conservation Center in Cape County Park. April Dozier gave a guided tour of the facility.

After the tour, members met at Branding Iron in Jackson for pie and coffee. A short meeting was held. Barbara Lorberg, president, introduced the club's newest member, Joan Battle.

Earlene Sokolowski, treasurer, reported the balance in the club's account. Jane Boren reported that seven blankets had been donated to Hope Seeds.

Mary Renne announced the officers for the coming year. They are Elvia G. Percival, president; Mary Lou Talley, vice president; Dorothy Pensel, secretary; and Sokolowski, treasurer. Boren made a motion to accept the officers and the motioned was seconded, voted on and passed.

Cape Girardeau AARP

The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP No. 4041 met on Oct. 2. The program was "Cape Girardeau County Historical Homes -- Continuted."

Upcoming events are the district round table in Poplar Bluff on Oct. 24 and board meeting -- annual meeting on Oct. 31.

New members are Donna Irvin, Jean Dinwiddie and Nita Brasel.

Maxine and Al Mitchner, Betty Hopen, Carolyn and John Robinson and Pat Best were recognized for the committee work they do.

The next meeting will be Nov. 7.

American Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary met Oct. 12. Lunch was served by Patsy Kimbrel, Barbara Yallaly and Fern Schlimme. Gloria Robbins was welcomed as a new member.

Betty Cato, president, conducted the meeting. The auxiliary charter was draped in memory of Millie Messinbrink.

Dorothy Klein, legislative chairman, announced this year the American Legion will be in charge of Veteran's Day service at Arlingotn Cemetery in Arlington, Va. It was voted on at the National Legion Convention to give the national commander permission to support the war on terrorism, to stand united and to support our troops.

Myrna Powers announced a Habitat for Humanity house will be dedicated at 5 p.m. Oct. 25 at 525 Pacific St. in Cape Girardeau. A welcome basket will be given to the new resident from the auxiliary.

It was decided to take food and drink to the Cape Girardeau Alternative School for "Make a difference day."

It was voted to give a donation to the John J. Pershing Veterans Administration Hospital at Poplar Bluff and to the Cape Girardeau Veterans Home Auxiliary representatives for their Christmas gift shops. Money will also be alloted for veterans living in private health-care facilities for Christmas gifts. Gerry Stone will bring Thanksgiving cards for members to send greetings to the private facilities.

Officers who will attend the fall conference in Jefferson City, Mo., Oct. 26 through 30 will be given $50 each to help with expenses.

Thank-you notes were received from the Parkview State School, Centenary United Methodist Church and the Community Counseling Center.

Frieda Howard, representative for SALT, announced the Tour of Lights will be on Dec. 15. It was voted to donate a door prize for the reception that will be held at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center.

Drying towels are needed for the kitchen and it was approved to have Juanita Cook to purchase a food cart.

Upcoming events include ham and bean dinner at the Legion hall from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 3; a garage sale at the Osage Community Centre Nov. 5; the 14th district meeting Nov. 6 in Cape Girardeau; and Legion post annual Thanksgiving dinner at 6 p.m. Nov. 16.

Peggy Blaylock, Dorothy Klein and Schlimme will plan the auxiliary Christmas party.

On Nov. 1, the auxiliary will go to Jackson for a luncheon put on by the Jackson American Legion Auxiliary. The next meeting will be on Nov. 9.

New Salem UMW

The United Women of New Salem United Methodist Church in Daisy met Oct. 12 at the home of Betty Henry. Lurena Maintz and Laura Brothers from Old Salem Church were welcomed to the meeting. Dorothy Hahs, president, presided over the meeting.

A thank-you card was read from Addie Henley. There were 31 sick/shut-in calls made during September. There was a discussion about the Christmas display to be put in the Jackson City Park. A report of the Festival of Sharing was read. Roberta Seabaugh reported on the nursing home visition for September. Members of the visitation committee for October are Betty Hahs and Henry.

The nominating committee reported that all positions have been filled for next year's officers. The Thanksgiving menu was planned. The World Thanks Offering will be presented at the next meeting.

Margie Roberts respored on the hurricane relief efforts by LaCroix United Methodist Church. Henry presented the program.

The next meeting will be the Thanksgiving meal and meeting on Nov. 2 in the fellowship hall at New Salem United Methodist Church.

Kage FCE

The Kage FCE Club met Oct. 13 at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center. The program was presented by Jane Randol Jackson, director of the Cape Girardeau County Archives Center in Jackson. She told of all the information available at the archives.

Dortha Strack conducted the business meeting. A thank-you letter was received from the Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship Program for desserts furnished by club members at their recent barn dance. Linda Farrow announced a trail ride conducted by the therapeutic horsemanship program will be held Oct. 29.

Members planning to attend the District FCE meeting in Poplar Bluff on Oct. 27 signed up. Plans were made for the fall leader training at Salem Elementary School in Farrar, Mo. on Nov. 4. Each member present was given tickets for a quilt raffle. The quilt will be made by Agnes Wachter of Cheerful Country Doers Club. The drawing for the raffle will be held March 27.

Christmas greetings for Military Mail were brought by several members. The next meeting will be held Nov. 10 when a make and bake auction is planned.
