Town and Country FCE Club
The Town and Country FCE Club met Oct. 8 at the home of Donna Woolsey. Woolsey gave the devotion with readings from the Bible in Matthew Chapter 6. Roll call was answered about holistic medicine. Pennies for "Coins for Friendship" were collected. A thank-you note was read from Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center for the beginning of school party the club hosted.
Darlene McCain, president, presided over the business meeting. Members brought Christmas cards to be mailed to the military. Sue Jones is in charge of the project. Members brought Halloween candy and treats and assembled Halloween treat sacks for the students at Cottonwood Residential Treatment Center to be delivered on Oct. 26. Club members will host a Halloween party for the students at Parkview State School at 1 p.m. on Oct. 26. Members planned what food items they will bring for the party.
In observance of National FCE Week Oct. 11 through 17, members planted spring bulbs at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson, attended church as a group at First Baptist Church in Jackson and then went to brunch at Delmonico's after church.
Members approved to give a donation to the Salvation Army for its Thanksgiving meal and its Tree of Lights campaign in December.
Mary Klaproth and McCain gave a report on the MAFCE Conference held in Osage Beach, Missouri. Town and County FCE Club received first place for its report on education and a certificate for the Gold Seal Achievement Award. Programs on allergies versus intolerance, organic foods, social media, women and abuse and Afghanistan were presented. The keynote speaker was Shannon Crain, superintendent of Norwood Schools, who spoke on education. Jones and Woolsey were winners in the MAFCE fundraiser, with Jones winning a night's stay at the Inn at Grand Glaize in Osage Beach and Wolsey winning a Missouri afghan.
A weighted blanket work day will be held Oct. 29 to make blankets to be given to persons with autism.
Linda Thompson presented the program on holistic medicine and also dimensions of wellness.
Club out will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Cafe n' Me in Cape Girardeau.
The next meeting will be Nov. 12, hosted by Joyce King. The program will be presented by Karen Murphy on home radon testing.
