New McKendree UMW

The New McKendree United Methodist Women met Tuesday in the church fellowship hall with a covered dish dinner. The business meeting was opened with the reciting of the UMW Purpose.

The minutes were read by Gale King, secretary, and Marilyn Fronabarger, treasurer, reviewed the treasurer's report. They were approved as read.

Mary Klaproth, president, announced that the Mission Project for October will be to give money or food to the community food pantry. Klaproth also announced that 111 school kits and one health kit for the Festival of Sharing project had been delivered to Dexter, Mo., where they will be sent to impoverished schools and refugee camps. The kits contain basic tools for learning for children in these areas. The cloth bags were made by Margie Crites and Patsy Johnson.

Shirley Patterson, education and interpretation chairwoman, reported on mission studies to take place in 2012. As a result of this year's study on Haiti, people have been responding by paying for water filters for individual homes in Haiti. Many children's colorful dresses were donated at the annual meeting in Blue Springs, Mo., in September for girls in Haiti.

Amy Cook gave a report on the kinds of mission ribbons available for sale.

The Esther Circle will host the Jackson Manor Birthday Party at 2 p.m. on Nov. 1.

Klaproth announced that Doris Dace donated white table cloths for use in the dining hall.

The 2012 budget was presented for approval. Mary Ann Maeltzer moved to approve the budget as presented. Eglena Davis seconded. The motion passed.

A report from the nomination committee for the officers for 2012 was given by Sue Ann Smith. Pat Lynn, spiritual growth officer, will install the officers in November. Also, the memorial service will be held during the November meeting.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 1.

The meeting closed with a prayer from the prayer calendar.
