Eastside Homemakers

The Eastside Homemakers met at Reflections Restaurant in Jackson on Dec. 18 for a noon meal. Canned food was donated to the food pantry.

The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at Riverside Regional Library. Yearbooks will be filled out for the new year.

New Salem UMW

Members of the New Salem United Methodist UMW of Daisy gathered at Cedar Street in Cape Girardeau for dinner and a Christmas Party. Spouses also attended.

The meeting was called to order by Roberta Seabaugh. It was suggested the club adopt a member of the church to send cards to during the year.

Secret pals were revealed along with a gift exchange. Names were drawn for secret pals for the coming year for and also outside the circle.

The next meeting will be at the home of Seabaugh at which time the date books will be filled out for the next year. Verla Mangels will have the program.

St. Mary CCW

St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met in the grade school cafeteria on Dec. 19, for a covered dish supper. After the Christmas Novena, the business meeting was held.

It was moved by Regina Yeager and seconded by Nancy King that a bond would be given to the Home & School auction.

A big thank you was extended to all who made the Christmas Craft and Bake Sale a success.

Santa Claus came to distribute bags of goodies and lead in the singing of Christmas carols.

Attendance prizes were given and the December birthdays were announced.

Thanks to Rhonda Ruch and the December Circle helpers for hosting the meal and providing decorations and prizes.

The next meeting will be held Jan. 16, at Maria Haus. Ellen Shuck, director of Religious Education, will present the program.

Cape County FCE

Thirty-six members attended the Cape Girardeau County FCE Council Meeting on Dec. 16. Kage Club was the club in charge of all details of the meeting. A mixer began the meeting, after which Jane Boren of the Progressive Club gave the devotion.

After the usual business meeting, Dorotha Strack reported that three students from Immaculate Conception School in Jackson were the three top winners in the FCE Citizenship, Art, and Essay Contest. She introduced the students to the group, Chelsea McDowell, Teresa Miller and Kelly Augspurger. The students read their essays while their illustrations were shown.

Mary Klaproth reported that three tours had been completed in the last quarter of the club year. Tours for 2003 will be planned in January by the FCE Tour Committee.

The next Leader Training Meeting will be conducted March 31 at the Extension Office.

Dolls were contributed by clubs for Child Advocacy Day in Jefferson City. These dolls will be given to legislators for distribution on Jan. 28.

To emphasize the need to tune out violence on television, members of FCE clubs will be soliciting names of those in the communities who will participate in the activity to be held April 5.

Mayors of Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Oak Ridge will be contacted to issue proclamations declaring May 15, as National FCE "Day of the Family."

Mary Gosche, Human Development Specialist, conducted a slide show as well as a video on explorers Lewis and Clark. Clubs will be studying the historical travels of these explorers during the next two years.

Shirley Cracraft presented scholarship recipient Sarah Cracraft as the FCE College Scholarship winner for the year. She is a student at Southeast Missouri State University.

Kage, Wonderworkers, and Town and Country clubs reported mailing letters to members of the military for the Military Mail Call.

Gosche conducted the installation of offices for 2003. Those installed were: Ruth Pohlman, president; Nelda Crader, president-elect; Shirley Cracraft, vice president; Agnes Wachter, recording secretary; Elvira Percival, corresponding secretary; Opal Collins, treasurer; and Inez Statler, public relations.

Members raised $1,090 for a quilt raffle. The winner of the quilt was Sally Kiplinger of Millersville. The County Treasury will benefit from this project as well as the American Cancer Society.

An auction concluded the meeting.

Exchange Club

The Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau met Dec. 17, at Port Cape Girardeau for their annual Christmas party. Monty Kyle presented Keith Kyle and a group of singers from the school where he teaches. Members and spouses enjoyed the program very much.

The ladies were presented with a poinsettia for all the help they have been to the club during the past year.

The next youth of the month is scheduled for Feb. 4. The next regular meeting with be Jan. 21.

Wonderworkers FCE

The Wonderworkers Club met Dec. 12, at Reflections Restaurant in Jackson with six members present. After lunch, a business meeting was held.

The December Council meeting was held Dec. 16, at Cape County Extension Center.

Plans were made to send embroidery thread to Africa.

The next meeting will be Jan. 9 at the home of Mrs. Robert Landgraf. Yearly programs will be planned. A gift exchange will be held.

Oak Ridge FCE

Jackie Rutherford was hostess in her home for the December meeting of the Oak Ridge Homemakers Club. Frances Jenkins was a guest.

President Marilyn Retherford presided. Barbara Popp brought the devotion. Melba Floyd led the group in singing Christmas carols.

It was reported that a check was delivered to a family who had lost their home due to fire. Retherford reported on dolls delivered to the University Center.

Secret pals were revealed and names were drawn for the new year. A large selection of food and paper products were brought to be delivered to a needy family.

Billie Criddle, Nelda Crader, and Carole Jo Byrd will serve at Jackson Manor for the month of January. Jean Rehak received the hostess gift. Volunteer hours were taken and a social hour followed the meeting.

Byrd will be the hostess for the January meeting.
