Carole Jo Byrd was hostess on Jan. 18 for Oak Ridge FCE Club meeting with 11 members present and one guest.
The pledge to the American Flag followed by singing "God Bless America" was conducted by club president Jean Rehak.
Barbara Barks gave a devotion from Isaiah 13 and read "A Great Cup of Tea," a short story by Dr. James Dobson.
Roll call for all members was "name a personal goal for 2011.
Christmas decorations for Jackson City Park were discussed and it was decided new decorations were needed and would be made by Nov. 15.
Betty Dellinger gave a recap of inventory on sock caps, gloves, socks and underwear needed for our association with Elks Christmas Baskets in December 2011. January's project was to buy caps, gloves, etc., to replenish the amount to be given away this coming year.
All Club Day will be held March 28 and all members are urged to attend. Working on Autism blanket will be at 9 a.m. on Feb. 14 at Jackson Extension Center. As many volunteers as possible are needed.
Our program, huck embroidering (toweling), was given by Byrd. This form of embroidering has been around for many years.
Funny newspaper comics were read and acted out by each member.
Oak Ridge Homemakers accepted Sharon Ervin as a new club member.
Cape Girardeau Area Church Women United met on Jan. 7 at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson with 11 members present. Shirley Patterson led the Bible study with discussion on the Christmas story from the perspective of Joseph and Mary.
Jonell McNeely had the opening prayer for the meeting. The minutes were read and approved. Martha Sanderson gave the treasurer's report. Joyce King and Carol Simon received thank-you notes from the Festival of Sharing for their participation. Vera Koen gave a membership report.
Past events included the Angel Productions "Christmas Carnival" with Patterson, King, and Carol and Larry Simon participating, and Jesus' Birthday Party with 13 members present was held at the Family Resource Center. A thank-you note was received from the Center for donations to the children and women who attend there.
Discussion was held on World Day of Prayer in March. It will be held at Zion United Methodist Church in Gordonville. Other events and locations for the year's celebrations were discussed. The Human Rights Award will once again be presented at World Community Day. Much discussion was held on the homeless shelters in our area. It was agreed to table sending a donation to a later date.
Sanderson moved the budget be approved as presented. Joyce King seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
The next Bible study and board meeting will be Friday at Maple United Methodist Church. Sanderson sent cards for the Adopt A Leader program. Fellowship of the Least Coin was collected, prayer concerns and praise were mentioned, and the meeting closed with prayer by Patterson.
