Laureate Alpha Rho

The Laureate Alpha Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at O'Charley's Restaurant on Jan. 22.

A motion was made and seconded to send a donation to the State Project to aid in improvements at the Ronald McDonald House in Columbia, Mo. Votes were cast for Valentine queen with the crowning to be at the Valentine Party to be hosted by Epsilon Tau on Feb. 13 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Jackson.

A program was read by Erma Vaughan titled "Simplifies (Chicken Can't Fly)".

The next meeting will be on Feb. 5.

St. Mary CWC

St. Mary Council of Catholic Women met Jan. 15 in the Msgr. Huels Room.

Ellen Shuck, director of Religious Education, presented the program, "Hope for our Journey." Dolores Gibbar reported that 25 bereavement dinners were served in 2003 and one so far in 2004.

Church Women United dues may be given to Lawana Wulfers. Hospitality Day was held Jan. 25 at General Baptist Church.

The January, May, July and September circle leaders will be meeting to plan the Spring Bake Sale.

A Soup Appreciation Dinner will be served on Feb. 19 in the Msgr. Huels Room. The monthly meeting will follow.

Alpha Mu Master

An Italian dinner and dessert was served by Judie Herbst to members of Alpha Mu Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi at the last meeting. President Marsha Parrish conducted the meeting.

An invitation from Epsilon Tau Chapter was received for the annual all-chapter Valentine Dinner to be held Feb. 13, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Jackson.

Beta Sigma Phi piggy banks were presented to Mary Schwab for her new grandson, Christopher Henry Schwab, and to Herbst for her new great-grandson, Rylen Vincent Eudy.

Programs for the evening were presented by Herbst. They included a report on the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge dedication ceremony and examples of what may be used as the tote bag for the Beta Sigma Phi State Convention to be held in Cape Girardeau in 2005.

Roberts Homemakers

Members of the Roberts Homemakers Club met at Riverside Regional Library for their January planning meeting. Following a carry-in luncheon, plans were made for the activities and progress of the coming year.

Judy Bryant, president, opened the meeting. Thank-you notes were received from a shut-in member and from the recipient of the gift for a Jackson School child.

New names were drawn for secret pals.

Members will eat lunch at Delmonico's Restaurant prior to the Feb. 11 meeting.

Xi Nu Phi

The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Jan. 20, at the Generations Center at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

The Valentine's Day Banquet will be held Feb. 13 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Jackson.

Plans were made and names of prospective members were turned in for a "rush" to be held Feb. 17. The program was "Empty Nest" presented by Barbara McKeon, MA, LPC, RN, NCC, counselor at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

The next meeting will be Feb. 3, at the home of Tammy Monia.

FCE Clubs

A one-day trip has been planned for all FCE Club members on April 17. The group will travel to St. Louis to see "Riverdance," at The Fox Theatre. The show begins at 2 p.m.

The group will also go to the Science Center to see the 45-minute film, "Lewis & Clark: Great Journey West," at the Omnimax Theater.

The trip is being sponsored by the FCE Clubs of Cape Girardeau County. The deadline for reservations is March 1. For more information, call Opal Collins at 334-1468, Carolyn Thompson at 243-2929 or Mary Klaproth at 243-5426.

Young Americans 4-H Club

The Young Americans 4-H club met Jan. 15, at Grace United Methodist Church with Clint Heuer presiding. Pledges were lead by Tori Schweer and B.J. Heuer. A song was lead by Micayla Gray.

Members reported that horsemanship, crafts, dairy and clowning project meetings have been held.

Michael Weber read a letter of thanks from a soldier stationed in Iraq for a Christmas card sent by the club. Julia Weber read a thank-you letter from the Jackson Ministerial Alliance for the canned food donation.

The Illers, Kirchdoerfer and Ostendorf families are on the planning committee for Dortha's Day Camp for Clover Kids, which will be held in June at Cape County Park.

Twenty-five Valentines for the military were sent. Whitney Ostendorf gave a demonstration on how to make pretzels, Schweer showed how to make dirt cake, Julia Weber demonstrated how to make balloon animals and herbed sausage biscuits were made by Blake Telle.

Games were lead by B.J. Heuer and the Gray family served refreshments.
