Alpha Mu Master; Sedgewickville UMW; Wonderworkers FCE Club; Hobbs Chapel UMW; Kage FCE Club; Ladies Auxiliary VFW 3838

Alpha Mu Master

The Alpha Mu Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met in the home of Margaret Little. The meeting was conducted by Linda Metheny, president.

The chapter will send a contribution to the State Service Project and to the Jim Trickey Fund. It was decided that the chapter will attend the Fox Theatre in St. Louis on May 15.

Updates were given by chapter snowbirds Karen Menard, Gwen Nussbaum, Charlotte Bess and Joyce Hays. A report was also given on past member Char Gibbs.

The program was presented by the hostess. She told of her family's travels to Virginia and Washington, D.C.

The next meeting will be held at the home of Bernie Gardner. This meeting will also be game night.

Sedgewickville UMW

The Sedgewickville United Methodist Women met Jan. 12 with 16 members present. Pete Shrum presided over the meeting. Following the reading and approval of the minutes and treasurer's report, program leaders for 2005 were assigned. They are: January, Edythe Davis; February, Gena Welker; March and Agape meal, Anita Hahs; April, Patti Kamp; May, Libby Denman; June, Francis Brother-ton; July, salad supper at the home of Davis; August, UMW trip; September, Anna Stroder; October, Dona Maes, book report; November, pledge service with Allison Shrum; and December, Christmas dinner and secret pal gift exchange. Names for senior pals for each members were confirmed for 2005.

Dates for dinners and rummage sales for 2005 were set: rummage sales will be held on April 30 and Sept. 24; UMW chicken and dumpling supper will be held on April 2; the group will cook for the Statler reunion on July 9; and a bakeless bake sale (aprons) will be held on Oct. 16, which coincides with UMW Sunday. The Sedgewickville United Methodist Church's pancake supper will be held March 5.

The program was presented by Davis on the survival of an Afghan girl from a refugee camp in Pakistan, her release from the camp and her comment 17 years later that her life "is the will of God."

The next meeting will be held Feb. 9.

Wonderworkers FCE Club

The Wonderworkers FCE Club met at the home of Margie W. Reisenbichler on Jan. 13. June Landgraf, chairman, informed members of the coming events for 2005 and the planning of the club's programs and hostesses were made for the year. The state of Alaska will be studied throughout the year.

The club voted to sponsor the center Girardot for Youth and Family and plans were made for a Valentine special for the center.

The next meeting will be held at the home of Margie E. Reisenbichler at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 10. The program will be on apple paperwork.

Hobbs Chapel UMW

The Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Women met Jan. 4 at the church.

Linda Cunningham was appointed to the nominating committee and Bonita Caetano was appointed as the chair. The present nominating committee is Therese Jones, Cunningham and Caetano. The committee will be filling the positions for program resources, social action director and ribbon coordinator.

All UMW members are encouraged to attend the Spring District meeting to be held in Charleston on April 9.

The 2005 budget was approved.

Kage FCE Club

The Kage FCE Club met Jan. 13 at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center. Opal Colins was hostess and gave the devotional.

Barbara Marshall, coordinator of the Crystal Club, arranged for members to clean residents' glasses at the Lutheran Home on Tuesdays. Inez Statler requested old eye glasses to be brought and given to the Lions Club.

Dortha Strack gave a report on Christmas bags of fruit given by the club to residents of Heartland Care and Rehab and gift bags prepared by club members to be used at Blanchard and Jefferson Elementary Schools for their Christmas store purchases.

The 4-H building to be built at Arena Park was discussed. A cookbook is planned to support this project and recipes were requested.

Kage Club has agreed to submit state reports on environmental and international activities done in the county in 2004.

Collins reported that the county tour committee has planned five trips for 2005. The first trip will be a trip to the Fox Theatre in St. Louis to see "Mamma Mia!" on Feb. 26.

Valentines for military mail were brought and will be mailed by Edna Hey.

Barbara Schaffner presented the program on medication side effects.

The Feb. 10 meeting will be hosted by Margaret Crites and the program will be presented by Martha Slaten on services available through APPLE.

Ladies Auxiliary VFW 3838

The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3838 met Jan. 13 with Judy Thrower, president, presiding. Two new members were installed, Donna Kay Mills and Michelle Brant. Jane Jenkins, secretary, read the general orders and other communications.

Thrower announced the district meeting will be held at Wappapello Post at noon on Feb. 20. There will also be the Voice of Democracy Banquet and Awards.

The C of A meeting will be held Feb. 4 through 6 in Jefferson City, Mo.

Carolyn Moore, National Home chairwoman, announced that VFW National Home for Children will be celebrating its 80th birthday. Moore was awarded a certificate of appreciation for fulfilling quota as National Home chairwoman. She also asked the members to continue saving Campbell product labels.

Phyllis Dodds, steak night chairwoman, announced that there will be no steak night in February due to the move to the new post.

Donations were made to the Patriot Act National Escrow Fund and VFW National Home. A donation was made for articles of clothing to be purchased for VA hospitals and veterans to be taken to C of A Conference in February.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Feb. 10.
