The Cape West Rotary meets at the Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge at noon every Thursday. Rick Ebaugh is in charge of programs for the meetings.

Larry Jackson is gearing up for his GSE team's trip to Italy.

In July, Barry Randolph will be taking over as president and Ted Yates will be taking over as incoming president.

Friendship Club

The Friendship Club met at the home of Ruth Nischwitz on Jan. 13.

Elsie Gerecke, president, led the pledges and conducted the business session.

Programs for 2004 were distributed to members. The club received a thank you from the Heart Association for a monetary gift.

Barbara Lorberg spoke of her visit to Spain. A social hour followed the meeting.

The next meeting will be on Feb. 10 at the home of Margaret Pfeiffer.

Wonderworkers Club

The Wonderworkers Extension Club met at the home of Jeanette Wichern on Jan. 8. A devotion titled "Lord, Fill My Cup" was given by the hostess.

The agenda for 2004 was filled. The state of Alaska was chosen to be studied for the year.

All Clubs Day, to be held on March 22, was discussed with plans being made.

An invitation was received from the Kage Extension Club to help celebrate their 60-year anniversary.

The next meeting will be Feb. 12 at the home of June Landgraf.

New Salem UMW

The UMW of New Salem United Methodist Church in Daisy met at the home of Jackie Kurre.

Some antique dishes were sold from the church which amounted to $25.

A discussion about the piano fund was discussed. There will soon be enough money to buy a new piano.

World Thanks offering boxes were passed out to the new members.

The floors of the church will be waxed at a later date.

After some discussion, a motion was made to prepare the meal for the Vigertone Company again this year on Feb. 18.

The program, "My Sister's Healing," was given by Carole Jo Byrd.

Shirley Grebe read a thank-you note from the Epworth Children's Home for the money the club sent them.

American Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary met for lunch and a meeting at the new Legion hall at 2731 Thomas Drive.

The minutes of the December meeting were read and approved and the treasurer's report was read and filed for audit.

Marilyn Ritter delivered scholarship forms to Central High School and Notre Dame Regional High School. Peggy Blaylock plans to take refreshments for Valentine's Day to the Girl Scouts sponsored by the club. She also has scholarship applications offered to scouts who have earned their God and Country badge.

The 24th National Veterans Wheelchair Games will be held in St. Louis June 15 through 19.

Commemorative bricks are being sold to raise funds. Dorothy Points said she would buy a brick in memory of her deceased husband, George Points, past Post 63 commander.

It was voted to participate in three programs of encouragement for deployed soldiers: Operation Crayon, Operations USA Care Package and Blue Star Service Banners.

Myrna Powers gave an update of Carter Estates, Habitat Houses being built in Cape Girardeau. A gift will be presented to homeowners at the home dedication.

A monetary donation will be sent to the River City Workers of the Blind. Money will also be sent for six girls to attend the 2004 Girls State.

Hostesses were Jeanette Niederkorn, Marie McElreath and Arlinda McElreath.

Members were asked to continue to collect tab tops for Ronald McDonald House.
