Exchange Club; New Salem UMW; Xi Nu Phi; Oak Ridge After-School 4-H Club

Exchange Club

The Exchange Club of Cape Girardeau met Dec. 7 and Dec. 21 at Port Cape in Cape Girardeau.

At the Dec. 7 meeting, Sandy Behring introduced the guest speaker, Jon Rust, publisher of the Southeast Missourian, who talked and showed slides about the newspaper.

The club Christmas party was held Dec. 21. Keith and Jan Koenig provided entertainment.

In other club news, Cletus Todt donated $100 worth of food to the Salvation Army for the holidays.

The next meeting will be Tuesday with Joe Perez scheduled to present the program.

New Salem UMW

The New Salem United Metho-dist Women of Daisy held their first meeting of 2005 on Jan. 5 at the home of Dorothy Hahs, who presided over the meeting. Fifteen sick calls were made in December. Hahs touched upon the high points of various correspondences from Susanna Wesley Family Center, the Southeaster Newsletter and a mission paper. She also read a thank-you note from the Gideons for donations which were given for the purchase of Bibles.

The Vigortone dinner was again discussed and a date of Feb. 22 was set for the dinner.

Committees for 2005 were discussed and each member will be given a sheet of the different committees, what they are responsible for and the ones they are to serve on. UMWs will continue the collection of loose change and will decide later where it will be used.

A new elderly person was adopted for 2005. A committee was assigned to check into high chairs and booster seats needed for the church. A discussion was held of visiting an elder church member who resides in a nursing home. It was decided that two members would try to go each visit.

Fourth-quarter pledges will be sent through the United Metho-dist Church office to South Asia for the victims of the tsunami.

Betty Hahs shared a letter that she had received from her missionary friend. Shirley Grebe presented the program, "Disparity and discipleship." It focused on the needy and our duty as Christians to help.

The next meeting will be on Feb. 2 at the home of Betty Hahs. Valentines for the elderly will be brought.

Xi Nu Phi

The Xi Nu Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Jan. 4 at the home of Cindy Propst. An update was given on the 2005 convention to be held in Cape Girardeau Oct. 7 through 9. Xi Nu Phi will be responsible for the closing ceremony.

Discussion was held regarding a fund-raising event by the chapter. A decision will be made at a later date.

A ritual of jewels and ritual of transfer of membership will be held March 15 along with election of officers.

A thank-you letter was read from the Chromosone 18 Registry and Research Society for donations from area chapters.

The program was "Internet Bill Paying" presented by Propst.

Members met Jan. 8 for bunko at the home of Sheryl Smith.

The next meeting will be Tuesday at McAlister's Deli in Cape Girardeau.

Oak Ridge After-School 4-H Club

The Oak Ridge After-School 4-H Club met Jan. 5 at the elementary school library with two leaders and 22 members present.

Dakota Oehl presided over the meeting. Josh Daume and Madison LeGrand led the songs, and Tessa Mangels and Daume led the pledges.

Devon Beard presented "How Not to Do a Demonstration," and Sharon Tuschhoff presented "How to Do a Demonstration."

Brook Robinson gave a project report on the Christmas tree.
