The week before the Cape Girardeau presidential visit by Bill Clinton, Al Gore and their spouses promises to be a busy one.

Over the weekend, campaign workers and volunteers have been getting ready for the event, which will be held in Capaha Park on Friday.

Their primary function has been preparing for the ticket distribution, said Kendra Foster, coordinator for the Cape Girardeau Democratic campaign office. There will be ticket distribution sites in each county of Missouri's 8th Congressional District.

The exact location of the sites have yet to be determined, Foster said. She said an announcement is expected to be made Monday. Tickets will be free, Foster said, but families are limited to four each.

Those requesting tickets will be required to bring some form of identification and their social security numbers will also be asked of them, Foster said.

The exact time of the president's visit is still not certain, though it will be sometime in the afternoon. The appearance will be Democratic presidential ticket's first following the party's national convention, which runs from Monday through Thursday in Chicago.

Nina Thompson, deputy press secretary for the Clinton/Gore campaign in Kansas City said that some plans have been finalized.

Bands from all across the district will play at the park Friday, Thompson said. On Wednesday, two days before the visit, the bands will congregate at Houck Stadium to practice.

On Thursday, volunteers will be building the stage, making the signs and getting the park ready overall for Clinton's visit.
