Clark unseats Robert in race for Cape Girardeau County recorder

Republican Scott R. Clark unseated Democratic incumbent Janet Robert for Cape Girardeau County recorder of deeds. Robert has been in the office since 1977. Clark received 15,671 votes to Robert's 10,602 votes.

Clark, a relative newcomer to Cape Girardeau County politics, said he was ecstatic, yet humbled with his victory. This will be 25-year-old Clark's first elected office.

Clark launched his campaign with promises to use his education in public administration and accounting and to bring more technology and better customer service to the office. Robert ran on her experience, which she said was hard to match.

Clark said he did not know what made the difference in the race, but said he is confident he could not have succeeded without his support team of volunteers.

He said he would like to meet with Robert to learn more about the inner workings of the office.
