Internet 101 class offered at hospital

Southeast Missouri Hospital will offer a free course for Web beginners during an Internet 101 course Monday. The class meets from 6:30-8 p.m. in Meeting Room 101 and 102 at the hospital. To register, call 651-5825.

Webmaster Joni Adams will offer tips on sites, search engines, e-mail and understanding Web terminology.

United Way raises over $250,000 so far

The Area Wide United Way has raised more than $250,000 toward is $875,000 goal, which amounts to about 29 percent of total funds.

Many employee campaigns are under way. Public schools in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Mo., and Scott City, Mo., raised $39,758 combined, which was an 81 percent increase from the previous year.

No adjustments are being made in the budgets because of the terrorist attacks Sept. 11. The local community recognizes the need to support its local agencies, said Nancy Jernigan, executive director.

The funds will be used to provide financial support to 53 programs in 32 agencies in Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Scott City.

Salvation Army to host meals with friends

The Salvation Army will serve Meals with Friends from 4:30-6 p.m. Monday through Friday at its center, 701 Good Hope. There is no cost for the meal.

The menu is:

Monday: Goulash, buttered corn, lettuce salad, garlic bread, cake or pie.

Tuesday: Tuna noodle casserole, green beans, peaches, bread and butter, cake or pie.

Wednesday: Shepherd's pie, coleslaw, applesauce, bread and butter, cake or pie.

Thursday: Chicken strips, french fries, baked beans, bread and butter, cake or pie.

Friday: Chili or vegetable soup, crackers, fruit salad, bread and butter, cake or pie.

Clifford to be at Westfield Shoppingtown

Clifford the Big Red Dog will be on hand to sign books and take pictures at 2 p.m. today at Mr. Bulky Treats and Gifts at Westfield Shoppingtown West Park Mall. Attendance prizes will be awarded. The Clifford books are written by Norman Bridwell and published by Scholastic. For more information, call Greg Essner at 335-6969.
