Herschel and Jacque Stroud, Civil War re-enactors who portray a Civil War doctor and his nurse wife, will be featured speakers at the Cape Girardeau Executives Club at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Drury Lodge.
The Strouds portray Capt. A.G. Huffman and his wife, Pamelia, who lived in Kentucky. The Huffmans left Kentucky after the war and moved west to settle in Peabody, Kan.
The Strouds will appear in authentic Civil War attire and discuss what it was like to live during the war years, to practice medicine in the Union Army and to care for the sick and wounded in rudimentary recuperation hospitals.
The Strouds are members of the Frontier Brigade of the 1st Federal Division, the Missouri Civil War Re-enactors Association, the National Society of Civil War Surgeons and the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. They are also members of the Topeka and Kansas City Civil War Round Tables. They have participated in a number of national and regional re-enactments and encampments.
