The city of Cape Girardeau has announced an opening date for a dog park at Kiwanis Park along with a ribbon-cutting celebration.
"Dogtown," a one-acre fenced area with separate areas for small and large dogs and several amenities, will open at 11 a.m. Nov. 9. Construction was paid for by revenue the city receives from the operation of Isle Casino Cape Girardeau.
The ribbon-cutting and grand opening will include a disc dog performance, a K-9 protection presentation by the Cape Girardeau Police Department and pet vendor exhibits, according to a news release from the city.
Rules for using the park will include that dogs must be at least four months old and fully vaccinated, and children younger than 12 must be accompanied by a parent to enter. Attendance of only friendly and social dogs is encouraged, according to the release.
More information can be obtained by calling the parks and recreation department at 339-6340.
