Cape Girardeau's public awareness coordinator has a new title and a new chain of command to follow -- but the job itself remains the same.
The new title is public information officer, and the position -- now held by Tracey Glenn -- will report directly to city manager Michael Miller from now on.
Previously, Glenn and her predecessors had reported to the director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
"The position has dealings with the city government's flow of information, and I feel it's a lot smoother if it comes through my office," Miller said Wednesday. "It's not a power grab; it's just a little easier this way."
With the vacancy in the CVB directorship, Miller said, it made sense to make the change at this time.
Glenn's office will still be in the CVB at 100 Broadway.
Her duties will not change, Miller said. They include providing updates and announcements of city plans and activities; serving as the news media's primary contact for city issues; writing and publishing a quarterly, citywide newsletter; publishing a monthly employee newsletter and calendar of events; distributing information packets to new city residents; and coordinating public use of Cable Channel 5.
