City leaders pitched the proposed benefits of the Transportation Trust Fund 4 plan to business leaders at the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce's First Friday Coffee. The event was held on the second Friday of the month due to the July 4 holiday.
On Aug. 3, voters will decide whether or not to approve the continuation of a half-cent sales tax to fund a total of $21,256,000 in road projects included in TTF-4.
Mayor Harry Rediger and City Manager Scott Meyer have made more that 20 similar presentations to community groups to inform voters on the proposal.
"These projects have helped our city to grow and it's important that we continue to grow and stay vibrant as well as support the existing infrastructure," said Meyer.
The proposal includes $13 million for specific projects, $6 million for general projects and $2 million in safety and contingency funds.
A complete list of roads slated for improvements as part of TTF-4 is available on the city's website, www.cityofcapegirardeau.org.
Since the Transportation Trust Fund (TTF) began in 1995, more than $60 million dollars has been raised through a half-cent sales tax to fund local road improvements.
