Plans to develop just less than 12 acres at the intersection of Bloomfield Road and South Mount Auburn Road moved ahead Tuesday night at the Cape Girardeau City Council.
The property, purchased by Mayson Investments LLC in March from Earl Norman, cleared the first hurdle when the council gave first-round approval to a request to rezone the property as a general commercial district. The property currently is split between residential and local commercial zoning. The council will vote again Sept. 15 to finalize the rezoning.
The council also approved creation of a three-lot subdivision at the south end of the property owned by Mayson Investments. Jeff Maurer, one of the principals in Mayson along with his father, Jim Maurer, said Tuesday evening he was not ready to announce any details of the development, except that it would have four lots fronting Mount Auburn Road and two larger lots adjacent to Interstate 55.
In March, when the sale was announced, Maurer said a Rhodes 101 would be part of the development and that the rest of the property would be used for retail, restaurant and office space.
