City of Cape Girardeau officials have announced that Fronabarger Concreters, a contractor for the city, has completed the second stage of the Independence Street Project from Hanover Street to West End Boulevard.
Starting Monday, Independence Street will be closed mid-block between Louisiana Avenue and West End Boulevard to just east of the West End Boulevard and Independence intersection. The West End Boulevard and Independence intersection will be reopened the week of October 27, weather permitting. The city encourages motorists to use alternate routes.
The city said that businesses along this section will remain open. Comments may be directed to the city's engineering division at 334-9020. The Independence Street Reconstruction and Improvements is a Transportation Trust Fund II project.
