The Cape Girardeau Municipal Band will perform Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Capaha Park Band Shell, under the direction of Dr. Robert Gifford.
Special guest entertainment for the evening will be the Faculty Brass Quintet from Southeast Missouri State University.
Joe Sullivan, editor of the Southeast Missourian, will serve as the celebrity guest conductor.
The concert will feature several selections by Karl King. He wrote military-style marches and circus marches, and is considered by many to rival John Philip Sousa for the title of "March King."
Musical selections include Robinson's Grand Entree March, Trombone King, Barnum and Bailey's Favorite, Goldman Band March, The Big Cage, A Night in June and Fountain of Youth Overture, all by Karl King. The band will also perform Across the Wide Missouri by Claude T. Smith and selections from Oklahoma by Richard Rogers.
In case of rain, the concert will be held at Academic Auditorium.
There is no admission charge, but those attending are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
