Amy Smith, who teaches English at Cape Central High School, is one of 15 Missouri teachers across the state participating in a summer seminar, "Emily Dickinson: Feminist Criticism and the New Historicism," at Central Missouri State University.

The two-week seminar, which will end July 26, is conducted in partnership with the Missouri Humanities Council, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The session will feature intensive reading of Dickinson's poetry and letters against the background of central developments in recent literary and historical criticism. Lectures pertinent to seminar topics will be presented by Central Missouri State faculty.

Each participant received a $250 cash stipend and a $30 book allowance. They also will obtain three hours of graduation credit.
