Four students from Cape Girardeau Central High School have been selected to perform with the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps from Dubuque, Iowa.
Josh Miller, contra-bass bugle, Justin Newberry, soprano bugle, Matt Shivelbine, baritone bugle, and Josh Lamar, soprano bugle, will compete with the corps throughout the summer. Newberry is also a soloist.
The drum and bugle corps is similar to a marching band, except it includes only brass and percussion instruments.
In all, 120 males and females between the ages of 16 and 21 from across the country have been selected to march.
They will be traveling all summer to competitions across the country.
Shivelbine said the four first watched the Colts organization on a television broadcast. "Then we saw a few shows in person," he said.
Through a competitive audition process, the four were chosen.
They have been practicing once a month since January with the ensemble. In June the competitive season starts.
