A company soliciting advertising for a Central High School football calendar isn't raising funds for the school's booster club.

Athletic Director Terry Kitchen cautioned businesses on being asked to buy advertising for the calendar.

Kitchen said several businesses have received phone calls from a company selling advertising for a calendar. Ads are selling for up to $150, but none of the money goes to the school, Kitchen said.

The money doesn't go to the booster club, either, booster club president Jeff Daniel said.

Neither the school nor the booster club has been contacted by the company selling the advertising, Kitchen said.

"They are insinuating that Central High is backing this," he said. "That's a total lie."

The school has never participated in a calendar promotion.

"We think we can use money in a more efficient way," Kitchen said.

Businesses getting calls should ask for the name, phone number and mailing address of the callers. People may call the school or the Missouri attorney general's office with questions.

Later in the summer, cheerleaders will solicit ads for the programs sold at ball games, Kitchen said.

And, the booster club will begin its annual membership drive in July, but club members will identify themselves.

"If anyone has a question whether something is authentic, they should call the athletic office" at 335-8467, Daniel said.
