Christmas for the Elderly - Saturday, Dec. 1

The Christmas for the Elderly program is intended to help seniors who typically don't have a family, lack basic supplies and can't spend money to treat themselves to a Christmas.

Donations can be dropped off at the Southeast Missourian office at 301 Broadway and should include the identifying letter of their recipient.

Those who wish to donate cash or a check should make it payable to Christmas for the Elderly, P.O. Box 4, Cape Gir-ardeau, Mo., 63702.

Woman needs clothing, pet items

Ms. G has circulatory problems, often making her feel cold even on the warmer days. An extra-large coat in long would help to keep this 92-year-old woman warm. Gloves or mittens in a large would also be appreciated.

Ms. G lives alone, is widowed and has no children. Her dog, Peaches, needs a leash, toy or Purina Dog Chow.

Ms. G. would be really thankful for a dress in any color, size 16 petite. For those willing to help with Christmas gifts for an elderly woman, Ms. G. is a medium in tops, size 16 in pants, size 7 in shoes and extra large in undergarments.

In need of household, personal items

Ms. H is chronically depressed. A widow, she lives alone, finding it hard to keep her outlook upbeat. Some things that would bring holiday cheer to an otherwise bleak situation include household and personal items. Her small Social Security check does not always permit purchases of basic needs, reinforcing her depression.

Sweats, a coat, bathrobe or pajamas in an extra large; shoes in a size 8 1/2; pants size 16; Depends in size large; full size sheets; bath towels and dish towels; and cleaning supplies including detergent, soap and toothpaste would also be appreciated.

Recliner would be best present ever

Mr. I is hard of hearing, has high blood pressure and heart problems. He lives in a small apartment and doesn't have room for much furniture, but a small recliner would make this elderly gentleman comfortable.

Mr. I has enough clothing and would appreciate a few household items instead. Hand, bath and dish towels or paper towels and laundry detergent are items he does without because of his limited income. A set of queen sheets would be helpful.

Mr. I's closest family is a cousin who lives a few towns away. At this time of year, your gifts are what make Christmas for the elderly and often isolated population in the community.
