Starnes, of Nashville, has been performing Christian music since the late 1970s. He has performed in Cape Girardeau in the past, both at churches and at the high school auditorium.

Before going solo, Starnes was a back-up singer for television programs like Gaither Homecoming Friends and for pastors such as John Hagee and Dr. Charles Stanley.

"He just blesses you when he sings," said Gary Wren, a Lynwood member who has helped organize the concert. "There's just something that touches your soul."

Starnes said he wants to minister by singing and encouraging the local church.
