A 51-year-old convicted sex offender living in Cape Girardeau was arrested and charged Monday afternoon with two counts of first-degree child molestation.
William H. Evans, of 25 South Sprigg is currently in police custody in lieu of $50,000 bond.
According to the warrant issued for his arrest, Evans allegedly subjected a girl under the age of 12 to sexual contact on two occasions last week.
Sgt. Rick Schmidt said the victim was not a relative of the suspect and that the alleged act was not committed violently.
Evans was convicted of sodomy and first-degree sexual abuse on June 11, 1987, in Cape Girardeau County. He is listed on a currently posted list of registered sex offenders.
