SIKESTON, Mo. -- A child was seriously injured after being struck by a car in Sikeston Friday afternoon, according to a news release from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.
Police were contacted by Missouri Delta Medical Center staff who said a child was at the hospital emergency room for injuries received from a motor vehicle accident. The 19-month-old girl was apparently hit by a vehicle backing out of a driveway on Watson Street. The driver, the release said, was unaware the child was behind the vehicle.
The child was flown to St. Louis Children's Hospital for further treatment. At the time the news release was issued around 4:30 p.m., the child's condition was unknown but believed to be critical.
