Child dies in SUV crash near Delta

One child was killed and four people were taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital after a one-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon on Highway 25 near Delta.

Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton said Tayshon David Matthews, 10, of Cape Girardeau was pronounced dead at 4:47 p.m. Wednesday. Tayshon was partially thrown from the vehicle.

Firefighters from Cape Girardeau and Delta also had to extricate at least one person from the vehicle.

Cape Girardeau Fire Department were dispatched to the sport-utility vehicle crash about 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The SUV overturned after running off the roadway on northbound Highway 25, Cape Girardeau Fire Department Capt. Randy Morris said.
