Investigators said the child was staying with relatives at a south St. Louis home when she tried to climb the ladder of the bunk bed. Her head accidentally became caught between two of the ladder's rungs and the bed frame.

Neighbors said the home's owners often baby-sit for children. The home is not a child-care center, and investigators were reviewing whether the children had adequate supervision.
