Republican vice presidential candidate Dick Cheney will stop in Cape Girardeau Thursday afternoon for a brief rally at the airport.
State Sen. Peter Kinder, the Bush-Cheney campaign's Eighth District chairman, said the former defense secretary will land at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport sometime from early to mid-afternoon Thursday.
The rally will be held at an airport hangar.
It is unknown whether Cheney's wife, Lynne, will be with him, Kinder said.
He said the advance team for the Cheney campaign is due to arrive in Cape Girardeau today or Monday.
Cheney is stopping on his way to a fund raiser Thursday evening in St. Louis. The stop in Cape Girardeau is not a fund raising event, and the public is invited to attend, Kinder said.
He served as White House chief of staff under Gerald Ford and as Secretary of Defense for George Bush.
Both Republican and Democratic campaigns are hitting the Midwest hard, with Missouri considered to be one of the most pivotal states in the region.
More information about the rally can be obtained by calling the office of U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson at 335-0033.
