Brandon C. Johnson, 23, of 706 Cleveland St., Charleston, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is being held with no bond at the Scott County Jail in Benton, Mo.

The Scott County Sheriff's Department received a call at 12:39 a.m. Sunday from an employee at Mr. C's nightclub at the intersection of Route Z and U.S. 61 between Morley and Sikeston, Mo. The employee reported that Betts had come through the front door of the business and collapsed. The sheriff's department and Emergency Medical Service responded to the call.

A .22-caliber revolver was recovered on the shoulder of U.S. 61. It is believed to be the murder weapon, said Capt. Jerry Bledsoe of the sheriff's office. However, conclusions will not be official until results from the crime lab are received.
