CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Police are investigating the second shooting within a week in Charleston.

About 8:30 p.m. Thursday, the Charleston Department of Public Safety received several calls of gunshots in the 200 block of North Elm Street. Responding officers found the victim, 23-year-old DeMarcus Owens of Charleston, in the 200 block of North Heggie Street with an apparent gunshot wound.

Owens was taken to an area medical facility for treatment and listed in stable condition.

"An investigation is ongoing, and officers are trying to determine if this shooting is related to one investigated on Sunday," said department director Robert Hearnes.

He said there are no suspects, and anyone with information is asked to call 573-683-3737.
