CHARLESTON, Mo. -- A Charleston man will serve the next 50 years in prison for the murder of a man during a robbery.

On Tuesday, Jevon Jones, 20, was sentenced in connection with the Nov. 10, 2010, death of Justine Wright, 22, of Hayti, Mo. Wright, who was found shot several times in his car in the 700 block of Gain Street in Charleston, later died at a hospital.

During the sentencing, Mississippi County Prosecuting Attorney Darren Cann asked the court to sentence Jones to 30 years on the murder count, 15 years on the attempted robbery and 30 years on the armed criminal action charge. He requested the sentences be consecutive for a total of 75 years.

Jones gave a statement during the sentencing in which he said he was a good person and well respected. He denied again that he committed the crime, according to Cann.

Judge T. Lynn Brown sentenced Wright to 30 years on the murder charge, 10 years on the attempted robbery which is to run concurrently with the murder charge, and 20 years on the armed criminal action count which will run consecutively to the first two charges for a total of 50 years in prison.
