Timothy Lamar Randle, 34, of Cape Girardeau and Toria Lawrence, no age given, were identified as the occupants of the U-Haul pickup truck that crashed and burned after a Jan. 27 chase on County Road 638 by Cape Girardeau police officers.

Randle was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, all felonies. As of Monday afternoon, no charges had been filed against Lawrence.

Randle and Lawrence are connected with burglaries in Cape Girardeau and Jackson beginning Jan. 14, according to a probable-cause statement from Cape Girardeau police detective Joe Thomas.

A resident in the 3000 block of Northchurch reported $5,664 worth of jewelry, guns and electronics were stolen after the electric meter at the house was damaged. Damage to electric meters was the connection between a burglary Jan. 23 in the 600 block of Redbud Circle, a burglary in Jackson and an attempted burglary Jan. 27 in the 2000 block of Steven Drive, according to the report.

Like the resident on Northchurch, the residents in the 600 block of Redbud reported several thousand dollars’ worth of items missing, including jewelry, a starter pistol and a laptop, the report stated.

On Jan. 27, officers went to a burglary in progress, spotting Randle before he jumped into a U-Haul pickup truck driven by Lawrence, the report stated.

Police chased Lawrence and Randle more than three miles north on Perryville Road before Lawrence crashed in a creek, the report stated.

Cape Girardeau officers rescued the couple from the burning wreckage after the crash. A Missouri State Highway Patrol crash team determined the truck was going 99 miles per hour before it crashed.

Randle was taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital and given treatment for his injuries, including surgery, the report stated. Lawrence was flown to a hospital in St. Louis for treatment.

Detectives confirmed Lawrence rented the U-Haul truck at the Cape Girardeau U-Haul store and listed an address of 2736 Luce St., where Randle was paying city utilities, the report stated.

Neighbors on Luce Street told detectives they saw the suspect’s vehicle reported from the Jackson burglary. Also, a small, blue passenger car was seen at 2736 Luce St., and home surveillance caught the car on video, according to the report.

Using a search warrant, detectives found a laptop and wine stoppers identified from one burglary and a prescription for Naproxen identified in another, according to the report. They also found a sledgehammer, a pry bar, 22 grams of marijuana, two baggies containing a white powder that failed field tests for cocaine and methamphetamine and a bag full of empty pill capsules next to the drugs.

During the crash Jan. 27, Randle possessed a key to a custom lock to a room in the Luce Street house that had several bags of jewelry inside.

Randle’s bond was set $25,000, cash or surety.
